Hey Johnathon C, very helpful info. I see they hava a branch in Sydney. Might blow the budget out a bit but sounds like good foam.

For these sub $200 SUPs are you guys spay painting them? LSDs look as thought there are. Car paint is pretty pricey in expensive Sydney

Watch out for XPS foam , my first board was xps , it's beautiful to shape, very dense , has a nice solid feel to it , but when you glass it , it Outgasses . That is you pull the squeegee over the cloth for the last time ,shut the shed ,come back a couple of hours later and the cloth has lifted in lots of little bubbles . After shaping with M grade EPS iI wont go back to XPS . Rod Hocker tried to warn me about this but, I thought , what the hell I'll give it a try anyway . Well the board surfs OK but it looks like its got bad acne .

How durable do you want a board?
My priority is surfability/performance.
I just examined my 8'2", its been surfed every day since being made 2 months ago in surf from .5 meter to 3 meters.
The way its wearing I am confident it will last indefinitely.
No rail damage, minor foot dints in standing area only.
It weighs 5.7 with large 11" fin.
1 x 6 oz bottom 2 x 6 oz top with 2oz to smooth deck, no filler required.

Lsd ,When you use light grade EPS do you use a sealer before you glass and if you used a higher grade EPS do you still need to use a sealer . Thank you your input into this area, it's highly valued by everyone

Yep, I used to think sealing was just adding 2 more steps to the board building process & extra weight.
But the fact is when you glass without sealing an amount of resin similar to what you would use sealing will be taken in between the beads of eps & the risk of out gasing causing nasty bubbles/blisters is high.
A runny sealer mix of epoxy & qcell can reduce the weight/amount of resin used.
If the mix is too stiff the eps beads tend to pull out when applying with a squeege.
Cheers

Hey logman
I asked deano the same sort of question the other day and i have just sealed my VH grade blank ready for glassing and i was amazed how much the EPS sucked in the Qcell resin mix. I should have it finished next week so i put up some photos -8'8 x291/2 weapon

Nice work BL , on Steven Pirsch's site he says use spackle to seal the blank. That seems to be bordering on insanity . Waterbased spakfilla , he's joking isn't he . maybe its the worlds most elaborate practical joke, up there with "utegate" and 4x beer . Post them photos BL

Both boards cost approx $300 each to make 7'10 x 30 x 4 and 7'6 x 30 x 4. I haven't tried the 7'10 yet, 7'6 is very loose but a bit slow, maybe it's the turkey surfing it (me). I think I will cut a few slits acroos the deck and flex a bit of tail rocker out and glue then reglass over slits.
