A technical question here if anyone can help.

What is the effect of UV on my boards exterior? I paddle most evenings after work and because of the stairs to my apartment its very difficult to take my board home afterwards. Where I paddle I have a safe relatively sheltered place I can store my board but its got no shade and the board will be exposed to direct sunshine most of the day.

Will this have a degrading affect on the boards finish? Is it better to put the board in a bag or am I just degrading my bag when perhaps the board will be fine in direct sunshine?

I have an old goat boat thats kept in the same spot for many years and it seems ok, would my SUP be much the same or am I reducing the lifespan. Board has white bottom and I always store it grip down.

It will reduce the lifespan of the painted surface. The epoxy is under 2pack I assume. May delam if really hot; unless you have a breather you undo.

How about shade cloth over the top??

What Hilly says is true, uv will degrade paint, even top quality PU in time.

Leaving the board in the sun is a good way of finding leaks!.....you may notice a drip or a hisssss......but the reverse may happen when using the board in cooler water after its been breathing out all day in the hot sun
If you have an epoxy board it won't like uv, one sure sign of epoxy is that it will yellow in a few days of strong sun, it can take years to become chalky & weak.
Some surfboard epoxys are uv stable...so they say..
Can you post a shot of the board?

PS...What I'd be doing if I wanted to look after my board in your situation is just throw a light coloured sheet over the board.

Lobes covers are less than $200 just get one it will give heat insulation plus keep the sun off. Or at least make a rack with a little roof and a drop down shade cloth.
