Qld is about to have a battle royal between the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. Really looking forward to seeing it. In Early August the Sunshine Coast will be having the regional Championships which will cater for SUP, Mal and Short Board. Each board riding club on the Sunshine Coast will be putting forward their best surfers for the contest. From this, a regional team will be chosen to compete against the Gold Coast crew. This is being planned to be an annual event. The Sunshine Coast has been busy organising their end with the assistance of Surfing Qld.
Our club (Sunshine Coast Sup Club) will be entering:
2 Men in the over 45 mens SUP 4 Men in the Open mens Sup 2 women in the Open womens SUP.
Our members are also able to enter all the Long board divisions in the composite group.
I think this is a great idea and SUP inclusion has been greatly accepted by all the other boardriding clubs up this way. We will be competing in our division against: Caloundra Malibu Club Noosa Longboards Club And a composite group from all the other clubs.
If you are a SUP surfer and would like to be involved and have a crack at this then you need to come to our next club day to try out.
The next day for the Sunshine Coast SUP Club will be Sunday 8th of May. Time and venue will be posted on this site in the next few days.
I have seen some great SUP surfers on the coast and would love them to come to the next club day to try out. It would be great to put our best up against the Gold Coast Crew.
Wouldn't hurt to throw in a Moffatt to Mooloolaba paddle in there as well. Goldie vs Sunshine. Points for top 3 in each division to give a total points score to each team. Got to be a trophy in that (or a good drink at least).

Hey Scotty
It would be good to see. The Gold Coast Crew has some awesome paddlers but the Sunshine Coast crew has a number of speedsters as well and this number is growing with the Thursday time trials that have been on at Lake Kawana and the speed series that starts next week at the same spot.
I don't think it would come under the same event this year as it is the first time but I don't see why it can not be organised along side the event.
Cheers Swanie, Maybe next year. My Mum lives at Moffat and I might throw the Sup in next time I head up as I live in Sydney. Love to join you guys one morning. Not much sunshine down here at present.
Ok if you are keen come to the next club day. ALL WELCOME.

That Kawana Speed SUP race (surf SUP's,12'6,14plus) is on toworrow at 4:30pm. It would be great to get a big turn out Well done regarding the comp, "would be great to see the Sunny crew kick some Goldie ass"!!

a potental mens gold coast speed/dw team - jm, jacko, travis, kelly, beau, macca for starters.
Not that I am one of them but if I started listing the talent on the Sunshine Coast I would be worried to offend and leave off a dozen or so by error. The list would make the thread "Sexy girl SUP pic's" seem like a one post, one page wonder..
Maybe we should just put in our "B" no "C" team to make it fair.

yeah, we have a few learner guys like beau, who seemingly came out of nowhere and is as fast as the 'fab 4'. and greg long who has made the goldie home was 2009 oc1 national champion is itching to go

are you sunshine crew ready for this
If not, send 'em down to Vicco, we'll take 'em on.
As long as they paddle wave boards and we get unlimited race boards.
don't count on it. i've seen the human power machine billy watson paddle a 9' surf sup and contend with travis and kelly on a 500 metre training run. they were on 12'6 race boards. i was on a 17' er- got beaten by ten metres or so. kelly jokingly said whats it like getting done by a 9' er- umm great
speaking of billy, i wonder if he would come out of retirement to kick some sunshine butt

bloody wanna be novices
I get it. You will need to bring Newbies as anyone who's paddled a while would be shaking in fear of the Sunshine Coast's awesome paddlers and would struggle to remain standing on even the widest most stable board.
Didn't Billy marry a Sunny Coast girl. Would he race for his home or heart
I agree that the Goldie would have absolutely no chance against the Sunshine Coast. Frankly we are a bunch of softies down here. Most of our paddlers are retired or should be. We just talk it up to sound good but realise we would have no chance against your side.
Even my new blue board is a pig and would need an engine with dual props to pass a paper boat folded with tissue paper if paddled by a Sunhine Coast kid.
I may have to delete this before the crew down hear wake up on the Goldie and read this or I might totally burn my welcome down here.
Anyway I am off to paddle on my favourite Naish board.
Brave statement Lacey but good to finally read a bit of honesty. I personally liked the look of your blue board but agree it wouldn't have much chance paddled by a Goldie person. Maybe get a Sunshine Coast person to paddle it. Great marketing and soon you would have everyone wanting one.
PS> What is written above may be a partial or full fabrication.

Just spoke to Peasy (SUPSA President) doesn't know anything about it ? Will this be a qualifying event for the Gold Coast crew or just a challenge against the Sunny crew.

Hi Piros
Our is in full swing with the shortboard club noms due in very soon as they are having a north and south area challenge before the regional challange. SUP and longboard go straight to the regional challange here. We have this month to sort out who from our club goes in the regional challenge. From this they are meant to sellect a team to compete against the sunshine coast. Contact Matt from Surfing Qld on the Goldie to find out more.
