It was an enjoyable day by all involved at today’s club meet. We had about 14 competitors in the first Surf Comp for the ‘Sunshine Coast Stand Up Paddle Club’. This is a great start to what will inevitable be a great club as the sport grows.

The conditions were small waist high waves and a fair chill in the air. There were 2 heats of 40 minutes and then the final. The final places were as follows:

1. Louis Harris
2. Mark Hatfull
3. Scott Roberts
4. tie: Anthony Swan and Damien (yes I mentioned forth place in case I may never make the final again)

A big thank you must be given to many people for today.

• Louis Harris from ‘Maroochydore Stand Up Paddle School’ provided the BBQ and drinks and also a range of boards for demo.
• Luke King, Dieter and Gina from ‘Kite Action’ and ‘Sunshine Sail Boards’ provided a range of boards for demo.
• Pete Turner for coordinating the Judging.
• The list is long and as many people helped out today… so thank you to all.

We also had a demo on a new board from a local shaper Alex Baxter from ‘Hayden Surf Craft.’ I had a small paddle on it and was very impressed. Stephan Seni surf it in the comp and was also very impressed.

The next club meet will be on the second Sunday of August (9th of August). The location will be ‘Happy Valley’ at Caloundra. The start time will be 9am. Please let your friends know as the more the merrier.

Hi Keahi
We treated yesterday as a fun comp and had not placed any specific rules as such yet. Alot of the surfers were in there first comp (including myself) so we wanted to keep it fun and low key. None the less we all tried our best to perform in the conditions that prevented itself.

We are moving our day to the second Sunday of the month so not to clash with the Noosa group and some of the local board rider clubs. This will allow people interested in the sport 2 weekends of opportunity on the Sunshine Coast as I would like to come up to Noosa for a day aswell. Also this will let some keen surfers from the local board rider clubs to have a go. We might see you down this way on the next day? 9th of August at Happy Valley (Caloundra)

We had a lot of surfers off M'dore beach try the SUPs through out the day and they were interested in the sport. Some were out for more then an hour on the demo boards. It gave them a real appreciation for it as some thought it was going to be a lot easier then they discovered. It was a great PR day for the sport and we look forward to the club growing over time. It is a great family day with mums, dads and the kids all having a go and a play on the beach.
Cheers

I was one who took advantage of the day and the demo boards that were on offer.

First time SUP, had a ball. Many thanks for to the organizers for the opportunity and friendly advice and I learnt allot in a short time as to what the different shapes can do.

Will be ordering a couple of boards this week for myself and family.

Aghh but which ones!!! All night on the net researching, looking at PSH 12 and Naish 11'4 to share around between myself, teen kids, flat water and small surf. We are all around 70-75 kilos.

Cheers

Barry
