Hi Guys.

For a while now I've been interested in paddle boarding. Looks like so much fun!

I've had the odd chat to a couple of paddle boarders and all have recommended that I have some lessons first.

Which leads me to my question.

Does anyone know of any decent instructors on the north side of Brisbane? Is there such a thing as qualified SUP instructors, or is that not so common?

I realize that I could probably do a quick Google search but I was hoping to have some personal experiences and recommendations.

Thanks
Lilly

Hi Lilly,

There is merit in what Wiery says, however, if you have a lesson or two you will get going quicker.
The videos will teach you the basics but won't correct you if you head in the wrong direction.
If you are going to watch vids look for Dave Kalama in particular.

There are SUP schools at Noosa, Maroochydore and Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast.
I think Briskites at Scarborough does SUP lessons too.

Yes there is such a thing as an accredited SUP instructor.

You will generally find that most experienced paddlers will be happy to give you a few tips if you ask. We are a friendly lot.

Have fun.
ET.

Hey Lilly,

I think is worth having a lesson or two to start out. You'll learn all the basics and good technique which will help build your confidence. Then get out on the water as much as you can and chat to any other SUPers you see, as ET said we are a friendly lot and it's always great to see newbies getting hooked :-)
If your interested in lessons in Brissie definitely check out BrisKites in Brighton, Jason runs the lessons and he knows his stufff. Also check out the Facebook group Brisbane SUP Paddlers. There are usually group paddles organised every weekend somewhere around Brissie.

Look forward to seeing you out on the water :-)

I agree with AndY, Jason at BrisKites is great or if you set ever down Gold Coast I personally recommend Roar Industries.
