Interesting article about how surf tourism has become the topic of university studies......those cool looking boats taking surfers to remote reefs actually destroying the reefs with their anchors....even papua new guinea restricting the numbers of people visiting places.....

PNG has good control on it's surfing you pay a fee to surf there , it's not a place you can just rock up and surf , the money goes to the villagers of the area you surf. They have strict numbers on the amount of people they let in , so over crowding is not an issue.

Re the anchor issue that has always been a problem , here is Aus at place like Butterfly Bay at Hayman Island they have mooring bouys , if one isn't free you can't drop the pick a pretty simple solution . Small boat anchors aren't so bad it's the big boats when they get hooked up they just put down the throttle and break the whole coral head off

I understand why people want the surf charter boats but personally i hate them.
When i did all my surf exploration i did it overland. Met heaps of local people, stayed in wacky places, spent my cash local and surfed some amazing waves.
Thats the best way to give back to the community i reckon.
