......eyes are quite complicated creations though.....I suspect an eye drop might be a simplistic solution to years of exposure to sun salt and all those particles that are ripping through our bodies from other galaxies etc etc

Ear drops will of course kill infections associated with "surfers ear".....but no miracle cure
Lots of people surf with wads of blu tac in their ears to prevent damage/further damage.
A similar scenario as I see it with eyes.........precautions you can take to prevent damage/further damage ?

Hey Giz, sometime ago, 30 years, I was diagnosed with a taridjium. I was told that this was caused from excessive sun exposure and squinting. I used to surf at dawn as often as could and obviously with the sun at a low level and parallel to the eye it caused me some problems. I didn't have all of your symptoms only some, dryness, itch, tears, swelling.
I got some glasses for reading,to stop the squinting, and gradually gave the early mornings away. Presto, no more problems.
I was also told to wear sunglasses whenever possible.
Don't know if this will help you but is my experience.
Good luck.

I was diagnosed with Pterygiums at the age of 16. A whole life from a baby spent in the sun and salt water (My parents were divers and beach bums)
By the age of 25 they were quite bad and unfortunately I received a wrong recommendation to leave them and wait. Just full on red eyes, sore all the time etc.
Just before my wife and I were married I had the operation after seeing a Macquarie St specialist.
Wouldn't wish it on anybody.
Don't forget this was 20 years ago.
A super fine needle is inserted in the corner of your eye for a local anaethestic after some deadening eye drops. Then the surgeon starts to cut and remove the over growing skin growth off your eyeball. Cant feel anything except the prodding and poking as he cuts. Your vision goes as the blood flows.
Doesn't take long but then your eyelid is stitched shut and off you toddle home. It really knocks you around as no stimuli and you just sort of shut down. Sort of remember bits but surfaced 2 days later. Back for removal of stitches and tests, super painful.
Then I had the second eye done 2 weeks later. Had to have radio-therapy on this after having a slight concave taken out of my eyeball as it was so bad. My poor wife had to change the dressings etc.
They are now growing back but nothing I can do. Glasses help.
wear sunnies, look after your eyes and hopefully with laser surgery these days you wont have to go through what I did. Still look like a stoner in summer. Sigh.

Bloody hell you guys, mine must have got caught in the early stages or something either that or it was something else altogether.
The issues that you have sound terrible.I hope you recover ok, the operation doesn't sound like much fun.
Good luck Gizzie.
Cheers

Yikes Ka43 !!! Alarming story.
I do a lot of outdoor pruning that involves looking upward also. Went for surf sunday and had major eye irritation afterwards. Will take your advice and wear sunglasses both at work and in water....thanks for the info
