With all the wind around at the moment there's got to be some good surfing options around Port Philip Bay. I know DJ talks about the waves that form around St Kilda Pier when the South Westerlies are blowing. While browsing the web, I found this photo which is of Davey's Bay in Mt Eliza.

It comes from a website that seems to have a plethora of info on surf breaks all around the Melbourne area: hoaxcoast.tripod.com/

30+ knot wind will kick up true surf waves on the bay. If the wind drops the wind swell persists for about half an hour.

You can get excellent waves at Hampton beach between the groynes opposite the end of Orlando St. There's a reef out in the middle and sand bars on the inside.

The foot of the Red Bluff opposite Potter St is excellent on a kiteboard, and the Sandringham LSC has a nice reef.
