Had a surf with Brooko this morning before the wind went crazy 30 - 40 knot Northerly. Was able to try out his new Surfshapes paddle made by Rod ( BoardBumps). My normal paddle is a Kialoa Methane which I am stoked with but I must say I was impressed with the quality and performance of the Surfshapes paddle.

Great work Rod.

Robdog and Brooko,
That paddle you have is the latest High Aspect design "Surf Blade".

The blades area is 95square inches and has a flat surface with just a little re-curve thru the length of the blade for a bit easier entry into the water this also lets the blade pull a bit earlier.

The blades angle is 10 degrees. The reason for this is to stop a bit of blade grabbing during the bottom turn it also trims better when you are trailing the paddle.

The shaft is hand shaped with a low diameter and has a solid core. The shaft stiffness is graded stiff. The reason for this is the shaft length is 155cm long and Brooko is over 90kg.

I also have two smaller blades for lighter riders and I match the shafts flex to the rider weight and shaft length. Its really just the same as customising a SUPA board to a riders weight.

The smallest blade 85insq for riders under 60kg and a 90sqin blade for riders around the 75kg range.

The other aspect of my shafts is that they are stiffer laterally (sideways) than in the direction of pull. This reduces the blade wandering around but you have to remember that blade wandering is technique related as well, just have to hold them a bit tighter.
