SYDNEY PADDLE SURFING CLUB DOWNWIND RACE #1.

The weekend of Sat 19th & Sun 20th sees two SUP races being run with either or both races being allocated series points.

The King of the Harbour event is scheduled for Sat 19th. If a good Nor Easter is blowing Deane will organise the SUP race to run from Brownwater to Manly and this will be a point score race.

If conditions allow the SPSC race to be run on Sunday, it will be run from Brownwater to Newport/Avalon or reverse under Sam Williams as race director.

This means that there could potentially be two pointscore races over the weekend.

Exact course details and other information will be published next week.

SAFETY INFORMATION.
Our series is coming into line with other SUP races and ski events around the country and will require all paddlers to carry an orange handheld daylight flare. These flares are currently in short supply due to the increased demand from paddlers so it is strongly recommended you try and purchase a flare asap.

Due to this shortage a provision has been made that if you can't purchase a flare you will be required to paddle with a mobile phone secured in a waterproof pouch.

In the January race you will not be able to paddle without a flare.

Flares will be checked at registration and marked with the owners name to avoid check in duplication. We are currently trying to get a bulk order of flares, however, do not rely on these being available.

A high vis foam PFD to Australian standards 50 or above is also a requirement. Inflatable waist PFDs are not allowed and paddlers wearing these will get a DQF. PFDs will be available at rego for $149 or WindsurfnSnow Watersports currently have them in stock.

Further details to come shortly.

CENTRAL COAST SALTWATER FESTIVAL.
As you are all aware this series is a "down wind" series and all races in the series must be raced down wind. Unfortunately the conditions experienced at last month's Central Coast Salt Water Festival did not satisfy this criteria and results of this race will not count toward the series point score.

There are still a few flares available at Northern Beaches stores.

Remember a daylight orange flare will be compulsory at our second race in the New Year. If you can't get a flare this week I'd be ordering one as they don't carry large numbers in stock.

NO FLARE = NO RACE

Whitworths at Crows Nest has a couple left for those on the lower north shore - 20 in total across their Sydney network. The guy at the shop was saying that the Sydney to Hobart also sucks up a lot of supply at this time of year.

They're certainly smaller than the ones we purchased at King of the Cut last weekend DJ.........but then again you have big feet.

I may be driving down so if anyone wants to go and get their own board there to use I may be able to. If there is a few I can take a trailer for a small charge.

Cheers

Flares are sold out on the Northern Beaches. If you were not able to get one I would be ordering via Whitworths now.

You won't be able to race in our second race if you don't have a flare. With Christmas upon us there could be a delay with orders and the next race is 23rd / 24th of Jan 2016.

Dave was just beaten over the line by Matty in WA after he lead most of the race. Dave knows these waters better than anyone so there has to be an advantage there. It'll be very exciting out there with James Casey stirring it up as well.

It looks like being an exciting race with some of the other Northern Beaches original downwind legends dusting off their boards and coming out of the woodwork for this one.

There's a boat load of photographers organised so we can expect some good down winding photos to apear after the race also.

About 12km Andy. It's a pretty challenging run as the Queenslanders who have paddled here will agree. All of the cliffs along the route provide alot of refraction and backwash so it can be a very tricky downwinder. Some sections can be very bumby while the last 2 km tends to have some great runners.

Thanks everyone for a fun and really well run event. So well organised and good vibes all round. Congrats to everyone especially the legend Kissa.
Perfect way to pop my ocean race cherry and enjoy making all the rookie errors.
