How sucessful have you been
How did you rig up
Any stories

I resently had a rather radical experience.

I had a LURE ( red white 1.5m depth diver ) on approx 100 pound line with solid wire trace cliped on to my leg rope via a float clip.

I was running the lure approx 5 to 10 m behind the board

I believed the leg rope would absorbe a strike.

I had no real plan after a hook up, apart from dealing with what ever the beast did, all though in my defence the float clip could be undune by squizing it in, a one handed grip and with a flick off the leg rope be free from any serious problems.

I had only been trawling for 100m when a beast hit the lure

This beast / fish hit the lure so hard it was like some one had got my leg rope from behind and yanked it as hard as you could.

Obviously i was cruising along relaxed in the SUP stance

The force ripped the board from under my feet, i became immediatly air bourne landing on my paddle top hand and head and face around the nose area of the board

FK IT HURT

before rolling into the water freeking of a tangle up and stories of fish being bitten off after being caught.

The fish had throwen the lure......... thank god

I wont be doing it that way in a hurry

I havnt done any trolling but I've paddled on my 14 footer at narrabeen lake in Sydney and caught 1 flathead and 2 whiting .... All were let go was really fun a little awkward as I didn't have a good set up ...
The funny thing is the other night I was paddling there in the dark an a mullet jumped onto my board landing on my deck and it was bigger than all the fish I caught lol no rod needed that day ... Almost fell in from laughing so hard ;)

I have trawled from my SUPs, both the 10 6 fly & the 8 10 widepoint have a threaded insert for a uni joint, this works well for attaching a fishing rod holder. On my last trip to the top of QLD this year I caught a spanish mackerel using this method. The fishing rod with the drag set method worked well. You just hope nothing follows the fish up.
