OG SUP FUN DAY 13th Jun.

Its 2am and I cant sleep!

We have done all we can do for next weekend and boy its gonna be a lot of fun!

I have been a little overwhelmed by the offers of assistance from many people for next weekend!

What started as a few breezers getting together is now a Surf Vic Supported Social Event with crew coming from interstate and the whole atmospere is one of total ALOHA.

Its an opportunity to remind everyone that we need to respect all beach users and riders of all surf craft and to only take the waves you need to take.

Yesterday after 18 months of no feeling in my left foot, I got a small amount of sensation back in my toes. Its hard to explain how big a thing that is, but I did get to prove the doctors wrong lol. Guess if you try hard enough and believe enough you can mke it work!

I had another session on my 9'6WAA last night in glassy 1-2fters and god I love that board. I guess if one person gets 10% of the enjoyment I get from supping from the day then in my eyes it will be a major success.

More 2ft glass in about 4hrs time, sometimes I wonder what I did before SUPing its changed the whole way I look at and live my life.

Mahalo to all those who have helped out!

Phill

Just a thought Phill.. I've been involved in a couple of demo days now and there is always a problem with people not knowing which are the demo boards and which are peoples own personal boards.. also paddles.

There's nothing worse than turning your back for a second and all of a sudden your board's gone and then you see someone taking it for a demo..or your paddle disappearing.

One way to help this problem is to have a sticker that can be stuck on all demo boards and demo paddles and making it clear that boards and paddles without a sticker are other peoples private gear.. Even some coloured tape work.

I've also seen people taking leg ropes off private boards to put on other demo boards and that's also something that's not good.. It's very hard to keep a close eye on your gear while you're talking to someone about SUP.

One more thing.. It's also good to have some way to know who are the people helping out with the demo and those that are having a demo and those who are just watching.. I've seen people going around asking total strangers questions about something and it gets very messy.

There is also the problem of sneaky people mixing in and stealing stuff.. Leggies are an easy thing for buggers to nick.. and paddles might go missing.. It can get pretty crowded at times with people everywhere.

How do you plan to address these problems?

DJ,
You've raised some valid points which I do believe are worth considering. Stickers or tape may be idea, I'm sure there are plenty of other things to do as well.

All of the SUP Bus boards, paddles and accessories will be available for demo so we plan to note details of all persons borrowing our gear just so we can keep an eye out and ensure everyone get's an opportunity to have a go.

You are right about opportunists exploiting the day despite all the good work and effort Phill has put into the day. It's very hard to keep an eye out on every piece of gear all day long when the whole purpose of the day is to have fun, mingle and meet new people who enjoy a common interest. I know of at least one undercover copper who will be wandering around on the day, god help anyone caught attempting the 5 finger discount!

If there is some sort of registration process for insurance or to track boards or whatever then maybe wristbands for punters? Just an idea...

Dj these are my thoughts an I invite any additional comments!

Only those that register will be allowed to use any demo boards end of story!
Those that register will be stamped on the hand to indicate that they have registered concert or Pub Style!

All demo board will have to be inspected by the Hazard Assement Officer on the day before they can be used.

Just a thought Phill.. I've been involved in a couple of demo days now and there is always a problem with people not knowing which are the demo boards and which are peoples own personal boards.. also paddles.

Demo Boards will be in their own dedicated area and SUP BUS, SHQ, GSI etc will have indemnity forms etc that will need to be signed before any items are demoed. This side of the day is thier responsibility to enforce, we will of course help out.

I would suggest but it is not my position to enforce this, that people leave a ccard / or a Drivers license or supplier takes specific details to ensure equipment is returned. This in most industries is standard practice even in the Hotel industry

There's nothing worse than turning your back for a second and all of a sudden your board's gone and then you see someone taking it for a demo..or your paddle disappearing.

DJ Personal equipment needs to be strapped to a car etc, I personally use lockable straps with stainless steel cable very difcult to cut. In reality DJ it is almost impossible to police that sort of thing. Or we can create a personal gear area (Maybe the Soul Club Tailer) I can ask Brian.

One way to help this problem is to have a sticker that can be stuck on all demo boards and demo paddles and making it clear that boards and paddles without a sticker are other peoples private gear.. Even some coloured tape work.

5) I think the Sticker or Colored tape is a great idea and I can bring some silver tape for all to use! I still believe that the demo boards will need to be managed by those responsible for the equipment and I will be guided by what they have to say.

I've also seen people taking leg ropes off private boards to put on other demo boards and that's also something that's not good.. It's very hard to keep a close eye on your gear while you're talking to someone about SUP.

I think we need to set up a closed area to book in book out boards one way in and one way out is my suggestion. I will be guided by what the guys from the SUP BUS etc suggest!

One more thing.. It's also good to have some way to know who are the people helping out with the demo and those that are having a demo and those who are just watching.. I've seen people going around asking total strangers questions about something and it gets very messy.

I think we can cover this with Colored Rash Vests

There is also the problem of sneaky people mixing in and stealing stuff.. Leggies are an easy thing for buggers to nick.. and paddles might go missing.. It can get pretty crowded at times with people everywhere.

If it is personal equipment, people need to lock it in a car etc, legropes can be cable tied to board to ensure they cannot be removed and this may help!

DJ, There are a number of Police Officers, Army and Special Forces people attending on the day and I believe you would have to be a fool to try it on!

Those that steal or attempt to steal will be dealt with to the full extent of the law and I will make it my person agenda to ensure they are dealt with as severely as the law allows.
