It's amazing wat difference the race conditions make as we did the 25 km Coffs Harbour race on Open Ocean boards with no wind and it looks like they are just on 12 footers with heaps of wind and end up with similar times

1st. Woogie Marsh (18'8" Penetrator) 2:53:04
2nd. Paul Jackson (17' Dale Chapman) 3:09:43
3rd. Jake Talbot (16' Dale Chapman) 3:29:18
4th. Simon Dodd (14' C4 Vortice XP Pro) 3:36:16
5th. Dale Chapman (16' Dale Chapman) 3:37:32

I think the biggest was 12'6'' which was pretty much what all were paddling. I saw a few Jimmy Lewis, Starboard, and a Laird. I'm keen to give it a crack next year but have only got an 11'2''. We'll see!!

That would of been tough on 12'6 boards.

What an awesome race
Courts, Bouj and Scotty were smoking!
I went for pole position off the mark but there was no way I was catching those blokes. All did extremely well. Lets hope we get more for next year!?
Also thanks Ian for getting us over to Rotto and for the loan of the Starboard 12'6 and also for looking after us during the race.

Thanks Hawkie. Thanks for coming down to see us finish. I hope you werent waiting too long
Lol how funny was my finish! I caught a wave and went left. Tried to dig the rail in only to see the board head straight for the beach and I went the other way flat on my face! Hehehe.
Did you see Simpers wave? The comentator said "Here comes another stand up paddler on a nice wave. Thats probably the most fun he has had all day lol"

Here are the wind graphs for the race. I would say at least 15 knots.

We didn't stay any longer, my 5 year old daughter was starting to get a bit bored so I missed Michael and the others arriving. What was the smallest board in the race? Did anyone paddle something less than 12'?

I reckon the JL boys like Miller, Hilly and Kitersi would have blitzed in a race like today.
Big blokes with alot of power behind their paddle.
Although Hilly needs to stop snapping paddles

yeah Greenie i was a 11.2 it was bloody hard work. Nowhere near long enough to catch any of the swells , got the odd windwave push but that was about it. I am already negotiating with wife for bigger board.

Would be good to try and get some of the WA guys & Girls over for the Seaway to Seaway.

I am sure the boys on the Gold Coast would be able to house you for a couple of days all you would need to do is find a board, pay for flights, support boat and food.

Once dates are up I will let you know - but I can tell you that it will be close to end of October / November.

I know that there was a couple of people that were keen to come over this year to race but things just happened to fast and we couldn't organise cheap flights or find boards.

Next year for sure

BIG CONGRATS TO ALL THE WINNERS! It was soooooo tough! I'm just glad i made it!!!! Ha ha ha. Over 3 hours of constant paddling with no waves to catch! I couldn't get over how fast the leaders were! Saw the vanish over the horizon really quick. Yes.....I think some training would be a good idea for the next one .

Thankyou to Ian for lending me the starboard and for being our support boat! I would have got very lonley all the way at the back of the pack otherwise!

When is the sea way event?

Yeah Rez is right. A big thanks to the boat that hung around us tailenders and offered us food and drinks. We had our own little race happening back there which was quite interesting. Picking different angles constantly and crossing one another every now and again. Kept you thinking the whole time. Its also great to see everyone that started saw the race out. I think SUP gained a bit of respect from the reaction of the other paddlers at presentations.
Next year a longer board and more training and then I wont be that sore that I have to type this with my nose.

Rez was on a Starboard 12'6".

I think the boards were as follows:- 6 x Starboard 12'6", 3 x Jimmy Lewis 12'6", 2 x Starboard 12'0", 1 x Starboard 11'2", 1 x Laird and I'm not sure what the other board was.
