I'm planning give it a go but will leave signing up to the last week or so. Want to make sure the condition suit, don't want to do it unless the docter is in.

I'd be up for giving The Doctor a crack if someone had a 12fter I could borrow

Somehow I don't think the 9'8" will be up to it

I hope to do the race on a DC16 and I will probably have my 12'6 down from Karratha over the holiday season in an effort to get some water time in between the booze and food (probably wont have the 16 until closer to the race at this stage)

Did you receive any form of confirmation email? Just checking because I haven't received any reply or confirmation and my name hasn't appeared on the competitor list.

I've just realised my mistake. It looks like I'm going in the open surf ski division. Whoops!
Hopefully I can change my registration to the correct division.

there is crew that wont to go to the race from the goldie. big costs. we have an issue with having to wear a life jacket as well as carry water. a bum bag pfd isn't good enough, because it has to be inflated accord to emails be the roar crew. now dale seems to think an ocean jacket has to be a class 3 type- the bigger type. we were thinking we could maybe get something slimline with heaps of armpit room!!!!. a big pfd with a say 3l camel pack- how is that going to work, probably get heat stroke at that time of year. i would rather wear 4 leashs and 2 bumbags pfd then wear a jacket. seems to be a lack of understanding as to what sup d/w is about. we are all going to spend a fair amount of money to get boards and ourselfs to get there plus some where to stay, but if i have to wear a class 3 pfd i probably will stay home. is there an answer???
cheers

Get a kakak pfd with a pocket for camel back bladder. They have perfect paddling clearance and you don't even notice them. You may never use it again but I wear mine if I'm doing long open water solo runs and honestly it really isn't a problem, mine is a Trek brand and it was about $170.

We need to confirm exactly what the requirement for pfd is, the kayak one that I use is only pfd type 2.

Hey Lacey, I know everything is perfect in Queensland but...

seems to be a lack of understanding as to what sup d/w is all about

is a bit strong mate . I'm sure it's an insurance issue for the organisers, why don't you give them a call and talk it through rather than suggesting they don't know what they are doing on a public forum.

I know it's a huge effort to get over from Qld but I hope you guys can sort it out and make it there, I'm just going to borrow any board I can get and do it for the experience and for fun.

ok, a bit strong. tell us more about this jacket. any pictures, do they do a pfd type 3.we are worried about getting overheated. we know its insurance related, but when it was asked if we could use bum bag type of pfd, they said yes as long as it is inflated, what's that about?still don't know what class of pfd is required i need to book a flight, so i'm getting a bit edgy. sorry if i appeared a bit stroppy.
cheers
ps it appears we will have to get flares over there, not allowed on planes

hope as many people as possible can make it over.
I don't know what I will use yet, not keen on the old boat lifejackets!!
Check the vid posted by akhawk on 23/11, showed the start of last years race and there was quite a variety of jackets including some slimline ones.

I have some flares for my boat that others would be welcome to borrow.

The finish location for Race 1 has been changed from Hillary's Harbour to Scarborough Beach as it was last year, the web site has been updated as well
http://www.oceanpaddler.com/Events/The-Doctor/Home.aspx
I'm sure glad I had booked my accom at Hillary's!

Bummer... I reckon Hillaries would have been a better chance for a true tail wind
