SUP, paddle board, OC-1.

Burleigh Point Outriggers was also going to run a SUP race long and short course division on the same weekend in conjunction with its marathon regatta.

As the dates clashed we decided to pull the race. Prize money and bands and few too paddlers being the reason. It's really a shame as my idea was to run the SUP part of our regatta to further strengthen the link between OC and SUP. Obviously some OC clubs have held SUP races Coffs club mainly with the Nationals.

This time of year there is an OC marathon regatta every 2 weeks, this is a potential SUP race also. If it were possible to convince the OC clubs of the support you would have the birth of a series and as much racing as you could handle.

This weekend at the Outrigger Australia marathon regatta on the spit there is a SUP demo being held with test boards etc on offer for outrigger paddlers.

Chris...SUP's have been included as part of the OC1/OC2 Races Series for the last 2 years. That Series starts after the OC6 Changeover Series finishes...usually around Mid August with a race every couple of weeks including the Seaway to Seaway in November and then finishing with the Nationals at Coffs Harbour in December. There are about 5-6 races in total making up the Series.

Stand Up Paddling was recognised and sanctioned with AOCRA last year and now all clubs must offer a SUP race in their program when holding an OC1/OC2 Race. It makes more sense to hold it with the OC1's than with the OC6's.

Sue, this is great news.

Apologies for the ignorance, I honestly never knew. I am stoked to be honest as this gives me something to look forward to over the off season. Well actually it just become the ON season.

I asked at my club about this but nobody there knew about it as there is no real involvement in OC1 and 2's at a club level. They knew about the Aocra sanction but that was about it.

Once again sorry for the misunderstanding and hope to see you at one of the races.

Yep be the for sure, looking forward to the extra distance in this one.
