Here is a nice write-up from Chris Parker on SUPRACER: www.supracer.com/20-beaches-classic-2012-preview/

With the generous support of Starboard, the 20Bs is able to offer $5,000 prizemoney. Here is the split:

Men
1st 500
2nd 400
3rd 300
4th 200
5th 100
1500
Women
1st 500
2nd 400
3rd 300
1200
Men Over 40
1st 500
2nd 400
3rd 300
1200
Bonus prizepool - 14ft and under no rudder
1st 500
2nd 300
3rd 200
1000
Men Over 50 - $1,000
1st 100

windsurfnsnow:
As an added bonus, those who pre-enter (including those who have entered for the series) will go in the draw for one of "6" $100 vouchers to spend at series sponsor windsurfnsnow

The Doctor:
Also, as the 20 Beaches is a double points race, results from this race will determine who gets the 4 flights to Perth for the Doctor race on January 19. In the event of a tied score - the higher placing in the 20 Beaches wins.

PFDs:
You gotta wear them. No exceptions.

Start time:
Watch this space. It is likely the SUPs will actually start 30 mins earlier than the skis. So expect to start at 1.30'ish.

START TIME.......

The SUPs "will" start earlier than the skis and it will probably be 1PM (but possibly as early as 12.30). Just make sure you are fully registered and ready to go by midday. It is always a nightmare getting parking and entering for the 20Bs as there will be 300-400 competitors so i suggest getting there early so you can relax before the race

Series update

Correction just spoke to Marcial Event Director.

Series is decided as per event website www.oceanseries.com.au

http://online.oceanseries.com.au/pages/oceanseries-events/event-rules.php

and as per 20 beaches event email : this is how the series placegetters is determined.

"Series Points System

Points will be allocated for the best 4 results from all six rounds of the Ocean Ski Series. In any instance where a countback is required, the result from the 20 Beaches will decide series places."

This tests the best paddler over a series of events in different conditions at different locations and still allows a paddler to "miss" two races.

Best three sounded wrong and not representative of the series. This will change the standings considerably for the final event.

Not that I'm really involved in this series put can u change the point score system once the series has already started and this far into it?? Seems strange? Maybe I'm wrong or miss read somewhere?

No, Unfortunately Stewie I turned 50 during the series so I'm in the over 40s. It's is based on the age you start the series unfortunately.

Yeah, I'm with you Dan, I don't think it's right to change the pointscore system partway through the series. I read that email too and was surprised they were saying 4 races.

Last year it was best 3 results (including 20 Beaches), until cancellation of the 2nd last race, then it reverted to best 2 results so people intending to paddle the cancelled race were not disadvantaged.

Not that it will make a difference to the overall womens results (as Neelie is smashing it this season!!!) but for someone like myself, who at the start of the series booked and made the trip down south for what will be 3 races to ensure I was eligible for series pointscore, it seems very unfair to now say i'm not eligible. If it had been announced as 4 races then I would have come down for 4 races!

I love coming down for the races and think the series is a great thing for the sport (hugely due to Kissa's efforts), and will continue to support this series whenever I can, but its just disappointing that the rules can change (or not be publicised until) this late in the series.

Hey Guys.
It is "3 races". Same as last year.
Marcial just called me to say he gave Stuey the wrong message as he was thinking about the skis.
For the ski paddlers it is 4 and SUP 3.
Apologies that this was not correct on the website.
And the 20Bs is double points.
Will points update done soon.

Hope it is half hour earlier Kissa, give me a chance to film SUPs start and first 15-20 mins from the jet ski. Then hopefully grab positional updates as the skis catch them. Hope we get good DW conditions. One request, can a few of the top SUP guys/gals make themselves available for short pre-race/post race interviews, 20B's gets world wide video exposure, usually 30k part and 10k full video plays from ocean paddling nuts, thanks.

It's close at the top of each division. Should be some ding dong battles for top 3 divisional places let alone the $$$ for this race. I think I've fallen to peer pressure so preying for some wind from behind and favourable swell.
