Telethon is on the 10th and 11th of November.

I am organising a fundraiser, which will be a social paddle from South Perth to the Perth foreshore, then a walk up to Convention Centre (where it is being held) to deliver the donations from participants.

I'm just putting this post up to see if I get any good idea's from anybody, something like 'hey I have had experience fundraising and these are the things to look out for', before I set the format in concrete and start promoting it, (I have not been involved in a fundraiser since maybe a walkathon at school).

The story so far:-
1. The idea is to give the SUP/Kite/Wind community a way to give to Telethon, also to say 'hey this is us as a group and we are charitable people'.

2. My first dreams were to have a kite/wind/sup speed contest with speed camera's ,'Worlds Fastest Indian Style' out the front of the convention centre, there's actually a beach between the Narrows Bridge and Barrack St Jetty that would work in an easterly or s/w, it would be possible, maybe in years to come.

3. Spoke to an insurer, seems the easiest way is organise it as an individual, social paddle, no insurance just take part of your own volition if you want to. Big advantage of no paperwork.

4. 10am gathering and funds collection for a 11am start, close to the bridge on the southern side, good parking here and easy to keep away from Jetty Boat Traffic, hug the foreshore then land at the little beach where the crystal swan is docked (you can check it out on google maps).

5. Say $20-$30? minimum donation, gather it in a telethon tin, put in a backpack for the paddle across, the telethon volunteers can count it when delivered. Also run one of those online donations at everydayhero.com.au where Telethon is already set up as the charity.

6. Involve as many clubs/shops/groups and general public as possible.

7. Already have authorisation from Telethon.

Hi Phil
The 10th of November is the State SUP sprint champs out at Champion Lakes. I think the Kite guys are having their States at Wedge on the same weekend, so you might find it hard with getting enough interest.

Good idea though. I'll follow up your call tonight.
