They both love to pearl. You pretty much have to align yourself straight with the wave and if you get it wrong, it's just a matter of time before you're tipping sideways. Pretty challenging to keep the nose up though, especially on the Starboard as it doesn't have deck grip all the way back. The Naish had a bit of a twist in it favouring one side which didn't help trying to keep the board straight on a wave - needs to be inflated and left in the sun with counter weights to even it up. I have seen this before in an inflatable so it's just a random fault that can be fixed.

No, all pretty casual.

The inflatables have this nasty little secondary wobble going over a wave - you can get over okay but once on the other side, the board starts doing this bouncing castle impression that's a little tricky and takes some getting used to.

I found they do the 'bouncing castle' thing when you jump back for a kick turn.
Weird sensation.
I reckon they would be great fun for a short race.....might find out later this week

A couple of lbs extra pressure helps to counter that (I know they're spec'd to 14-15 psi but...)

Ha.. These inflatables give you a feeling coming in on a wave that the rear of the board wants to go faster than the front of the board.. You need to keep the front half in the air because when it touches down it seems to stick or grab causing the rear to want to overtake the front.. and even if you can hold it straight you get this wobbly hopping thing happening.. Moving back doesnt seem to help much because of the flex in the board.. I had it pumped up to 15 and I would love to try it at racing pressure (18-20).. That first wipeout was my first wave on it and towards the end I was getting the hang of it and riding waves all the way in without a problem.. It's nice to know you can have carnage without a repair bill..

Awesome Video DJ! Just to clarify this BOP race was the SHQ Boardsports Melbourne SUP Cup at Sandy Point, which is the 2nd BOP surf race to be staged in Victoria. As you can see in Dj's video we had a perfect day for 3 BOP races, with glassy 1-2 foot peelers and around 20 competitors in all. Everyone had heaps of fun going in and out through the surf around a short ''M'' shaped course. A few positions changed as competitors caught waves and surfed them all the way in, which made it super fun and interesting. A great day was had by all!

We don't like too many rules at our events, so we run it a bit like Mambo.....not too serious with lot's of beer, BBQ's and fun for all!

Alongside the 4 stroke rule, there's also a rule that says competitors must put any protest in writing within 15 minutes of the end of the race. As this time has expired, I am afraid your protest will not impact the results of the competition.

Once again nice vid and soundtrack DJ, the photos of the " inflatables" show the versatility of the boards from a surf bop board to the banana lounge in the second last photo, got all recreational activities covered almost, is there a stubby holder included? Great fun day at the SHQ bop race, good job Luke and Hudson on organizing the event, I am sure it will attract more and more Suppers as we are all starved of bop races here in Vicco....

Had a blast on the new JP boards, I keep dreaming about 10' 33 1/2.
