Today I put my new Naish camo colored grip on my 11'6"...I cut the grip down to match the size that I have it on my 10'6".

I just need to buy a tail pad like I have on my 10'6" and I'll have a nice matching pair of Naish sup's.

It will be intresting to see that those little side ramps feel like.

It turned out ok I think...Tomorrow's looking good for a paddle..

Sorry Scotty...You're not on dial-up are you..

Oliver was going to paddle with me tomorrow and was keen to check out my new grip....He also has a 11'6" Naish.

But he just rang and said he can't make it.....Bugger!

So I said I'd post some pics for him to see what it looks like...and there may be others interested.

You're lucky I only posted 3 pics..

Howdy DJ,

If you dont mind me asking, which store did you get your 11'6" from and what is their $RRP?

I'm still wrestling with which board to get and from where.

Cheers

Hi Rev,

There are quite a few stores in Melbourne that sell Naish SUP's. SHQ, RPS, Trigger Bro to name a few. I believe they all have board in stock now. Naish 11'6" and 10'6" are both $1599 board only, or $1699 with an alloy paddle. There are also some great package deals with the deck grip and or carbon paddle included.

Hey DJ,

The grip looks good mate, i think the key to the camo grip is to shorten it

like you have. Does the grip come with the handle hole cut out or did you

have to do it? Let us know how it performs mate.

cheers

Is that the full length of the naish grip?. It seems very short as you will have to wax the gap between where the grip ends and the nose for nose riding/trimming on waves. I think boards should come from the factory with full deck grip included as it would save blokes like me doing a botch job on the grip and the extra $$$ involved.

Any way looks likes you did a great DJ, well done, enjoy your new ride

DILLIGAF2...Just found it in my deleted emails..oops!..I just replied.

I'm not sure what works best for removing wax..Others here might know.

I had a bottle of clear stuff that a surf board shaper gave me once..I think it was Bob McTavish years ago.

It had 'wax remover' written on it in texta..

The best way to stick deck pads on is to follow the advise in this vid..

Champcrow...Yeah I think it looks much better cut down..It just looks a bit much with the pad full size.

It seems a bit of a waste..but it's also a shame to cover the pattern on the board too much..and also that nice wood deck.

I had to cut the hand/hole myself..I just used some tracing paper and a piece of alloy pipe as a hole punch..( before I stuck it on )..It turned out perfect.

nev...the Naish camo grip is almost a full deck..(3/4)..I don't mind rubbing some wax on the nose area..It's not like I'll be up there for long..

I don't think it will be long before we see all sup boards coming with grip deck standard.

Hey DILLIGAF2

I got my wax off easy using a scraper first and then RP7 and some paper towling. I tried a lot of stuff but RP7 was what worked for me on my Naish.

I'm no chemical engineer so I don't want to be held responsible for any potential damage it may do to your board..... But all I can say is it disolved the wax and the paper just wiped off the oily gunk - with no noticeable side affects. I then used window cleaner to remove any oily residue left behind and the salt stains. Worked a treat

Give it a try.

I've got mixed feelings about the grip I put on my Naish on the w/e. I spent $200 on deckpad and after a session of far too long in the surf on the w/e here's what my legs look like today. Obviously, I spent too much time kneeling on my board.

Today I'm thinking I should have just stayed with wax for the surf and clean the muck off with rp7 and use my grippy crocs when I'm on the flat water. Still a bit undecided about the concept of deckpads - crocs worked fine for me on flat water and wax also worked fine in the surf.

BTW I'm planning on spending more time standing in the surf next time.

Ouch!!!......It's called S U P...not K D P...

Was that from punching whitewater or nose diving and sliding forward across the deck?..

Maybe that smooth Naish grip is not that grippy after all..but then it is meant for your feet..

Here ya go...This is what you need for next time....Maybe even a long legged wet suit.

btw you missed a good one yesterday..

I have taken the wax off many surfboards by 1st scraping the bulk of it off then using very hot water and a bit of elbow grease. Probably need something like Windex to finish off before sticking a pad on

The best stuff to remove wax is Prepsol...It's a wax dissolvent used in surfboard factory's.

Start by laying the board in the sun for 5 mins to warm up wax then remove most of the wax with a wax comb ,be careful not to scratch the deck while doing this , then clean off with ease the remaining wax using Prepsol and a clean old tee shirt...Board will look as new again.

Wash your hands after use , this stuff smells wierd !

Hope this helps ,

Rich

Hey DJ,

Have you had a go at 11'6 yet with the new grip, if so how did it go

and is it a better grip than your 10'6 has on it?

No..I have not yet..I've been using my smaller board so the glue can cure for longer on the new pads before I use it.

Yesterday I put the tail pad on..I just need to cover the center of the tail pad section now and it's done.

The weather here has been very stormy..Tomorrow is looking good..I just got a few sms's back from friends that hope to join me for a paddle in the morning.

I'll let you know how it goes...Oliver will be there with his oval Naish pad on his 11'6"..and skid marks on his knees..
