We have been doing time trials every week now for months and one area we have been wanting to improve on is the method of timing. Our volunteers have done a fantastic job and all times posted are accurate as we have always used at least 2 watches as a back up system.
Timing chips are incredibly expensive and I came across this app for the iPhone or iPad that worked really well for us. The volunteers do not have to know all names now. We just pin a number card on each paddler. It worked really well and though we did not use it fully tonight you can even accurately time the splits of the racers when doing a BOP time trial. Check the vid out. I have no affiliation with this.
App is called Race Splitter

What can I say Swanie you are the Dr Karl Kruszelnicki of the Time Trials. The gadget or shall I say app you're using seems too hard for my 6th grade education. Just give me the Garmin 310XT and I'm done. Swanie when I come back from Gland in September I'll find a Thursday free drive up to the Sunny Coast and paddle the Time trial with your crew on my SIC f18 I'm not a smart ass I'm just curious thats all
Cheers

It is actually a simple app. Just hit the racers number and hit record.

Would be great to see a SIC 18 do the course. Haven't had one of those yet and would guess it would push out a good time.
