My wife has put her foot down saying its me or your toys, she is sick of moving my stuff out of the way so she can get her car out. So I thought I better keep her around for a few more years so she can look after the three young rugrats while I go surfing. Dilema is what to get rid of. I,ve got the 18ft downwinder, the 11'6 x 30 wide beginner board which I still like taking the young one's on, the 10ft 29 wide perfect for big surf and the 8'11 quad (definetly keeping the quad). I'm figuring I'll have to get rid of two boards to keep the peace, problem is which two?

Overhead racks in the garage.

It'll feel strange sleeping up there at first but you will get used to it.....

Step 1. Build some overhead racks so the gear is out of the way. It makes it easier to use as well.

Step 2. Point out that vigorous exercise is one of the most effective treatments for chronic depression so she should be happy that you are taking steps to ensure your continued health and well-being (and by extention the health and happiness of your family).

Step 3. If applicable, point out that your only vice is relatively cheap (compared golf, harleys, ho's etc), extremely healthy, allows for quality time with the kids, and that you could be drinking smoking and gambling and rooting your time away. You are a paragon of virtuous manhood that she should be happy to have around.

Step 4. Give her some loving and hit the rising tide.

Some good ideas there, but the double garage is already racked to the max. Having the short boards, mals, surfskis and all the kids boards also makes it pretty hard to keep everything. I think she also keeps looking at my boards thinking I could buy a new handbag or boots with the money from selling that board. I keep telling her because they are all self made boards selling one would be like selling one of the kids. I think I'll just list them in the sell and whatever goes first so be it.

Hi Mick

How's things going up north, I,ve been paddling with the tweedcoast outriggers but not for the last year as I prefer to jump on the stand up board. Might do a couple of races this year if the surf is crap and the vibe is good at the club ( haven't got the patience for all the backstabbing that comes with it) if your down this neck of the woods let us know and we'll catch up.

Looks like there's the solution to your problem right there. Sell any of the above and you'll be right.

If it's any help you can keep the 18' or the 8'11" in my garage.
