Three of us on Naish 14s had a great down wind run this arvo.. It was blowing about 20-25 knots.

It's still blowing right now (about 30 knots) and tomorrow morning is looking real good if anyone is interested..

Forecast for Tuesday
Winds: North to northwesterly 20 to 30 knots becoming northwesterly 15 to 20 knots during the morning. Seas: 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 0.5 to 1 metre during the morning.

Today looked warm but it was ice cream headache time if you fell in and your head went under.. yeah I fell in right at the end.. Brrrrrrr! ..

Oliver's starting to get the hang of milking the runners.

It was a beautiful sunset.. and freezing cold.

Driving home I was thinking about Summer and how much I miss the warm sun.. and pulled up behind a little zook like mine with a cool number plate.

Hate the cold, and live in SE QLD!! So am absolutely soft.

Don't know how you guys do it in VIC.

I bought a quicksilver cypher battery powered heated vest a few weeks ago.

Works really well, like paddling around with your own electric blanket.

If I lived south I would buy two and wear one on the front as well

I agree with Bjh. Its too bloody cold down in mexican territory.
You guys are nuts. Have you tried the reusable heat pads in your wettie, you press a button and they chemically react and crystalise giving instant heat. Lasts about an hour. Then you just take them home and boil them in water and they return to liquid again ready to reuse at the click of a button. You can reuse them hundreds of times.
when I first saw them I was amazed. Absolutely Brilliant!!!!

And no doubt cheaper than Ripcurl's $1500 H-Bomb wetsuit with the battery powered heat packs. I think I only need heat pack booties and gloves. I don't get cold anywhere else.

Ive been thinking the same thing with the heat packs, with the RC eBomb 3,2 it has the batwing thing in the back that is sort of a pocket. Thinking of dropping one in there before a surf to see how long it will last. I cant see it being a bit diff but all the same when its cold and ya got a bit of heat when others havnt.

No, it's the 14' Glide.

Looking through my original vid after there were heaps better runners than the ones I've shown in that vid.. I guess I rushed it.. I'll do a better vid one day.

I can't imagine using the Javelin for a down-winder.. even in light winds.. For me I think it would be too flat and too tippy.

Looks like it's working well anyway, even in those small runs.

Yeah it's a good way to learn.. One thing to remember is don't paddle when you don't have to.. and getting back on the board when on a runner will often help keep it planing longer and also make it more maneuverable surfing the runner.. I've still got a lot to learn and don't claim to be an expert.. I guess the more you do the better you get..

Nice vid indeed. How's the form of Twinkletoes Peterson waltzing up and down the board?

The cold is a little painful for sure, but you can't beat an extended session in the cold. Getting out and you can't feel your feet, get changed, crank the car heater up and high tail it to the nearest pie shop. Take away cappuccino, a pie and maybe a muffin for the drive home.

Ahh the simple things!

Awesome pics guys, I had some GoPro footage from Sunday. It was freezing but in the footage it looks crisp and sunny. Amazing how deceptive an image can be.

Nice vid DJ, looks fun.

Hey Gav, where were you on Sunday? Cammo and I met at Southside at first light. I don't normally feel the cold too much - but after getting out of a warm car after the 90 min. drive down to Bells and standing on the top of the cliff overlooking the break fully exposed to the 15 knot wind - it was ****ing freezing. Didn't think I would have to do it on a SUP (which is still much warmer in winter than on a short board), but had to break out both the booties and the hood!

Luckily the wind dropped out pretty much, so it made it ok in the water. But the water was clearly warmer than the air temp at that time of the day.

yeah, everyone has goods and bad ones, when you get better, the bad ones happen less, then the next thing is to start lessening the bad bits on a good day. dj, you should do some comments on that vid saying what you are doing- slowing down, speeding up, chasing around the troughs and the timing involved and generally having f u n. i think the clarity of what you are doing with some instruction could be a ripper of a how to do it vid. it's worth a thought
cheers

I find the top arm rotation interesting.. I try not to do too big a rotation of the top arm by dropping the top arm at the end of the stroke and try and use the lower arm more to release the paddle and bring it forward while keeping the top arm doing small circles... Hey laceys I've been thinking about doing that talking over the vid thing and if I get some good footage one day I'll do it..

There's more and more people getting into down-winders now and it's great to see.. .. Yesterday I met Scott from Phillip Island that had driven all the way up to buy a Naish 14 after seeing stuff here on the Breeze so let's hope we can do some DW events over next Summer because I'm sure we'll get heaps joining in the fun.
