I was lucky enough to score good waves ( again ) at the Alley this morning with very few crew out including 2 guys on SUP, longboarders, shortboarders & a single lid. Vibe was great as everybody was battling the strong sweep and cheering each other on good waves. The major disappointment thought was the 3 skis doing tow-ins and zipping in and out of the line-up. The same thing happened yesterday afternoon at Sharkies off Burleigh.

My gripe isn't they were taking waves, smell ( they were 4 stroke) it is the safety issue. We all agree that they shouldn't be towing in the line-up when guys are paddling. I believe that it is only a matter of time before we have a terrible accident here on the Coast and someone is injured or worse still killed by a jet-ski in the line-up.

Now I am not anti tow-in as I have a couple of mates who do it regularly, however they go to the offshore reefs / breaks and are accessing breaks that it is not possible to paddle. It would be a shame that these guys could be stopped from doing this legally due to someones stupidity.

If we are to stop this I recommend that you try and make note of the make of ski / colour / colour of sled and inform the local police. These blokes only put their skis in at 2 places at Currumbin so even recording the rego of car & trailer would help. I realise that what I am suggesting is paramount to "dobbing" and as we all know "no-one likes a dobber" but we all saw the damage that an out of control ski did at the Quik Pro.

Cheers

Good call mate...ski's have no place in the line up if people are paddling...if it's too big or too dangerous for you to paddle into it then there is no way you should be relying on the ski........

the surf isn't all that big anyway....any excuse to get the jetski out these days

in the right place and big swell, then go for it, but not when there is paddlers in the water - tossers!

As I've posted before I'm part of the tow in crew here on the Gold Coast .Rule of thumb if guys are paddling in we don't go there and as you said when the swells up there are plenty of other places to tow other than the points , if your being buzzed by skies don't be shy to tell them to F**K OFF and if they don't by all means get there numbers and dob them in.

We worked hard to get together and put together rules and a code of ethics with Harbours and Marine BUT these D**KHEADS are blowing it for everyone.

Dob them in don't be shy.

I was surfing at Burleigh on one of the bigger days and the skis were ridiculous. Nearly got guillotined by the tow rope by an inexperienced team.

It has gotten completely out of control on the goldie. At Kirra and the Alley it is an absolute joke.

There are some really good tow/jump off teams around with plenty or respect and etiquette. Unfortunately the rest of the guys are spoiling it for these guys.

The same goes for those SUPes with no respect/etiquette in the lineup.

Unfortunately, it's probably going to take an accident before it becomes an issue and something is done.

For me it's a no brainer - there really should be some more no go zones around public beaches. I don't have problems with anyone enjoying themselves, but when it's done at the expense of the thousands of other beach goers then something is wrong.

Write some letters to councilors or take it up with a sympathetic journalist at the local rag and see what comes from it.

Fact is that if you're on a motorized craft you can not BY LAW come within 30 meters of people in the water, if you're doing more that ten knots. If you're towing someone, the legal minimum distance is 60 meters. It's not about code of conduct or anything like that, it's the law and it's there to stop people getting hurt. You're not "dobbing them in" by reporting it.

To reply to Soup, because there are people in the water IS a reason for the jet skis to not be there.
