What sort of board do you need for Roar training?

Cheers

Hey Shane
Any board will do, but most of the guys are paddling 12ft and up with 14ft boards being mostly used. If you paddle a 11ft board you might just be a bit behind on some of the stuff but the way i do most of it i can keep everyone together. For more info on our training and what times and days we do it you can go to http://kitesurfinggoldcoast.com.au/AnnouncementRetrieve.aspx?ID=32544 or just give me a buzz.

Also if you dont have a board big enough, and need to use one of mine then all we do is set up a money tin in the shop which you must put a donation in to for the board use and then later down the track if you wish to purchase some thing from our shop like a good race board or paddle then that money can be used for that. So its like getting fit and saving money for a good cause all at the same time

Jacko

I will be doing 2 "downwinders for beginners" - one today (Wed 19th May at 1pm) and another one this weekend (Sat 22nd at 1pm). We will meet at the usual boat ramp at Currumbin (Southern Bank)

If you have a board (minimum 12'6" please) and want to learn how to catch runs then you are welcome to come and join me. It is not a race but a practical exercise for those who want to learn.

The paddle will be less than 10km so its not a marathon. A legrope is a must have item so please bring one with. We will paddle as a group (or in groups) so that no one paddles alone, to keep everyone safe.

Please mail me, or phone me, if you want to come along. Alternatively, get hold of one of the SUPSA committee members for more details (Lacey, Secret Agent, Just Wrong...)

Sorry but the longest I have is 11ft.

I am thinking about getting a 14ft + but not sure if I can justify the $$ (to the wifey) as I have already bought 3 SUP this year (sold 1).

I have a 9'6 Mana and an 11ft. I've been surfing the Mana most lately but can see a time when I will want more of a performance style 9'6 - more drive down the line. Maybe get back on a short board for these conditions. I like the Mana cause it fits in the car for sly surfs around work meetings.

Could trade the 11ft on a 14ft but I really like the 11ft for knee high days when nothing else can catch a wave.

Probably need a 3 board quiver but the GFC is biting.

I blame Jacko for selling me the first SUP with no disclaimers as to where this would stop or how much it would cost.

I know its nice to have a quiver but 2 boards should be fine - 1 for surfing and 1 for Downwinders. You shouldn't give up surfing on your short/long board either as you need to mix it all up.

imo a 14' is a good option for a downwinder, especially in QLD. Some have rudders and some have have fins. The new DC14 is now coming out with the option of having both so you've got all of your bases covered in 1 DW board - nice.

Jacko's training sessions are fantastic! 5.15am seems early and the first 20 mins or so are in the dark but it's the BEST thing to see the sunrise at Currumbin and to have a solid training session out of the way before most people are even awake! Great mix of people training too and no-one gets left behind...
