Hi everyone!

I am new tot his so please bare with me! Does anyone know if Qantas will accept boards over 9ft? i.e. will they measure everything at the airport with a tape measure?

I've got a 9'6 McTavish and would really like to be able to take it on holiday with me for 5 wks!

Don't suppose anyone has any experience with them??

Thanks!

Virgin is your best best just pack it well lots of padding

From experience qantas does carry boards up to 8ft to the Goldie but you have to hope you don't get offloaded to a Jet Crap flight as they containerise cargo and limit to 6'6 i think.

Talk to them and ask lots of questions is my advice every situation and flight is different with Qantas.

Id watch Virgin too, have learnt that what is indicated on the website is not always what happens when you arrive to check in, nothing like being held to ransom prior to boarding an OS flight.

Friends just returned from trip to Tonga & Virgin didn't send any luggage for 50 passengers, so stuck without not only boards etc, but no clothes, toothbrush anything.

Depending on the plane (where are you going) Qantas will take up to 14'.

So you really shouldn't have a problem.
This year I traveled with two 12'6's. (although one damaged badly)

Last year same and a 8' plus 4 paddles

ADD EXTRA PADDING TO;
- NOSE
- TAIL
- RAIL opposite side to the handle on the rail...

Reason: the baggage handlers are human (obviously!), and just throw it around like a big suit case... They pick it up at the "central handle", and throw it into its next position... So the nose or tail will get slammed into a wall, or the end of the container.... They also let it drop about 1 foot (30 centimeters), so the rail can also cop a pounding...
* Add the padding to those 3 areas, as a minimum...

Simondo Kristi and I watched exactly what your talking about happen in Honolulu, LA and Maui.

Some pool noodles taped on the rails, bubble wrap and old foam camping mats on e deck an nose and tail protectors work wonders. very little weight and lots of protection.
