I still have the first carbon paddle that I ever bought.

On the left is my old Kialoa Nalu.. and on the right is my new Kialoa Hulu Small.. I love the new long and skinny blades.

Interesting also is that I am now about 4" shorter.. (total length) and once you alow for the longer blade it's really about 6" shorter.

A great insight into a terrific paddler.

Very logical points and common sense approach to SUP.

The oval shaft idea was used by Kialoa and never really took off by the paddle makers but once you use an oval shaft it is hard to go back to a round shaft.

DJ, I shed a tear when my Methane broke 3 yrs ago.

Good ambassador for the sport.

I paddled with both the trifecta and the v-drive during the same downwind run over the weekend. For me the V-drive felt alot better for downwinding than the trifecta. You could rate way higher and tap into bumps without the paddle getting "stuck" in a stroke. The trifecta on the other hand needed to be paddled right through the stroke to release easily at the end and felt like it needed a fair bit more power to pull it through the water. I think if you are doing a lot of flat water distance paddling the trifecta would be the better choice. I paddled again with my elite 100 yesterday and it had none of the finess that the v-drive has.

There's a very interesting interview of Dave CHUN about the reasons why Kialoa paddle blades are shaped the way they are... Very much worth a listen, although its pretty old (Sept 2008)....
