Hi everyone,

Due to an international cycling race at Cronulla on Sunday, creating massive road closures and problematic beach access - we are taking the SPSC event #3 mobile! Think of it as a mini road trip!

SPSC Event #3 on Sunday 13 December 2009 will now be held at Bellambi Beach near Wollongong.

See the maps below of where to park and how to get there. There is a chance we will surf on the other side of the point at East Corrimal but we will meet at Bellambi pool to start with and make the call there.

EDIT: See below for new times.

I hope you can all still make it.

Thanks and sorry for the late notice,

Casso.

B'ambi is a haunt of mine when the wind's from the south and it can be good, can be crowded, can be soft BUT can be fun.

It'll be crowded with loggers being Sunday and you'll have some interest from the small crew of SUP riders down there so it'll be an interesting morning.

Let's hope a sneaky little NE pulse pushes in so 'cutback alley' can come alive.....I can't surf as I have Dad duties from 11am but will drop down and give a hand for sure.

And BTW, the quickest trip is down the F6, down Bulli Pass, left at the Shell Service Station at Bulli / Woonona onto the 'Northern Distributor' which is the single lane entry to the new Freeway extension (opened last week), left into Bellambi Lane, over the railway line, right at the end of the lane where the school is in front of you, and scoot around the school by going first left, to the end at the T intersection, left and then right at the roundabout being the back of the school, follow it through the housing commission mess and left into 'Robert Cram Drive' and it's in front of you at the left where the road meets the sea.....hope that makes sense.

(Careful of the speed camera outside the Bulli Greyhound Track / Bowling Club on the Princes Highway just past the turnoff to Sandon Point where the church is at Point St).

Here's some recent images from B'ambi and an overview of it from the escarpment above.

OK, how about this then...

You can register from 7:00 am at Bellambi, as soon as we get enough entries we will start putting heats in the water. Don't worry if you can't get there early, we will still keep the cut off for the surf comp entries as 9:00am - you'll just be in one of the later heats. We should get all the surfing knocked over by about 10:30am (I would think).

Race entries will be open until 5 mins before the race - probably about 11:00am.

If you can get there early, please do so.

If you get there later and there is nobody at Bellambi - just drive around the point to East Corrimal as we could be on that punchy beach break instead (depends on wind and swell direction).

The schedule might look something like this now:

- 7:00 am - Setup, competition entries accepted
- 7:30 am - Round one of surfing competition starts
- 9:00 am - Cut off for surfing competition entries
- 9:30 am - Round two of surfing competition starts
- 10:15 am - Final of surfing competition starts
- 10:45 am - Women and junior divisions paddle race starts
- 11:00 am - Open division paddle race starts
- 11:30 pm - Presentation

Here's a pic of our new SUP surfing master, Ben Apps, wearing the coveted 'jacket'. In the background you will also see our 'paddling machine' Stuart Murray. Sorry about the low res, but all our photographers were on other assignments this weekend so this one is taken with my iphone!

Great day, thanks Casso!

What a great day. Awesome weather, great waves and fantastic group of people sharing the stoke and a bit of competition. We descended upon a really nice little reef/beach break peak and pretty much had it to ourselves for the duration of the day. Punchy lefts and rights in a semi-secluded, semi secret part of the coal coast. A great bunch of locals (some of whom don’t even SUP) allowed us to use one of their “spare” peaks which proved to be a great contest arena.

Standouts in the surf were local boys Scott Downing and Ben Apps who read the conditions extremely well and ripped the waves apart. Very unlucky not to progress out of the first round were Chris Hughes, Roger Peters and Jeremy Corne with some massive turns that were just not quite enough against the red hot field. Great effort by Wayne Morris for getting out there and mixing it up with some of the best SUP surfers in the state after only being in the surf a hand-full of times before.

The short distance paddle race was once again hotly contested and great fun. First place was a sure thing, right from the starter’s gun, with Stuart Murray winning convincingly on his C4 HoloHolo. Second place also seemed a certainty with Rob Gittoes leading the chase pack the whole length of the course only to miss a set wave on the way back in which, heart-breakingly, bumped him to fifth.
Thanks to everyone who made the trek down the coast and for helping make it such a great event #3.

Really fun day, waves were surprisingly good and met some new crew from the gong!!

Thanks again Casso for being such a powerhouse with getting these contests happening. Sorry I couldn't stay till the end - 4 comps in 6 weeks is pushing the limit for me and the family

Didn't seem to be any directed at any of the SUP crew on the day that I heard of. We pretty much had the beach break to ourselves.

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to all those guys who came down for the event.

Thanks for respecting the local request of not surfing the point. It showed alot of respect to the locals who can only surf the favorite point on the weekends. It was good to see everyone sticking close to the contest break, so no one got any bad vibes. The sport of SUP is still pretty new down here and is slowly being accepted. It helps though when some of the locals turned out and particpated and we all had fun. espically now that Im styling in the winners jacket, I may even wear it to my engagement party. hahaha

Once again thankyou and Ill see you all soon,

Appsy
