I've noticed some new race boards are getting a good wack with the ugly stick.

Just because they may be fast I don't think I'd buy one.

Check out this winner.

Yeah.. Maybe he's racing to get away from Pam..

Actually.. that guy (forgot his name) is one of the best SUP paddlers in the US..and that's the board that he won the 12'6" class on.

Even with a pretty girl on board they're still ugly..IMO..I'm not sure if they're the same board but I notice a C4 sticker on both.

Are they a new C4 flat water board?

Looks more like a canoe....must be for flat water with those 10in looking rails you certainly wouldn't try and have a surf on it

His name is Ernie Johnson. (E.J) One tough Cookie. He's from Dana Point in California and yes he does do well in all the races. He's a custom wood worker. His site:-

Hi Sue,
Thanks for filling in a few of the details...I'll add a few more below...

Apparently, DJ was a visitor to my blog, which is the origin of the pics that he posted...the missing photo credit belongs to me...

surfingsports.com/blog.asp

The two people referenced by name on my post are Ernie (EJ) Johnson and Andie Johnson...great folks...stoked paddlers...we'll be chilling with them the next couple of days...

The 12'6" SUP's they are on are NCP's by Brian Szymanski and Matt Friedman...

www.ncpaddleboards.com/index.php/about/meet-the-founders-brian-matt/

The one EJ is paddling is 23" wide...the other one is EJ's rough water board piloted by his wife, Andie...she has a beautiful stroke and is coached by EJ...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...brand loyalty can create product bias, which can be a stick in the eye to cloud objective vision...these boards are obviously outside the box...they are fast...EJ's race results speak volumes to that...he's an animal that can prolly out paddle anyone on the planet on a good day...fierce competitor...he puts his all into EVERY stroke...and doesn't leave anything on the course...

He also makes some killer hardwood paddles...which we carry in our standup paddleboard shop in Santa Barbara...

Welcome to the breeze wardog..

You blog is one of the best out there and I love the music feature on it.

I will often leave it running while doing other stuff on my computer and I've come to learn about many bands and artists that I didn't even know about.

Thanks for all your info and links... and keep up the good work on your site... I'd love to visit your shop one day.. I'd be like a kid in a candy store..

Just wondering.. Did EJ compete in the BOP..If so how did he go?.. Those boards look perfect for that type of event.

Thanks also for clearing up that question about those flat water NCP boards.. They are err.. interesting shape...

Are they molded and hollow..I couldn't find that answer on their site.

The best thing about this sport is that there are no rules, creativity reigns supreme.
