Kai Lenny is on the Gold Coast today and stopped by Currumbin this morning for a packed training session. I grabbed an interview with him after our paddle, so if you want to get an insight into the mind of a young champion then take a quick look at the clip below.

Cool to hear Kai's thoughts on what motivates him to SUP, how big wave surfing inspired him to go faster and why he actually wasn't a big fan of SUP racing to begin with...

Thanks to Kai for answering about 30 minutes of questions even though he was dying to go grab something to eat, and cheers to Roar Industries for letting us take over their shop for the interview!

Excellent interview! The kid's a legend - how is that drive to win? He just channels positive energy to push further than the next guy - Unreal!!!

"I just couldn't see myself coming third" and then he put his head down and won...

I think most of us who have tried racing share his stoke for the feel good endorphins and general feeling of fitness and it's cool to hear from someone who could get high on the winnings alone......

An ozzy marathon runner by the name of Herb Elliot wrote a book called the sports drug.I read it back in the early 80s.In it he describes hitting the wall and then finding more within your self endorphenes/ins and whatnot. It's a good read, sounds like Kai may have a simmilar way of thinking.

What an impressive bloke -Robby Naish hit the jackpot with this guy!

He is such a talented athlete and he has a totally level head on his shoulders. By all acounts from the people who have met him on his trip around Australia, he is a really nice guy too.

Imagine the bright future Kai has, considering what he has accomplished already at 20 years of age.
