I noticed a few posts have vids using Vimeo. Initially, I thoght it was video software but checking it out it seems to be similar to you tube (or in competition perhaps). Before Seabreeze I had never heard of it. What are the pros & cons with both. Your thoughts ?
My vote is for Vimeo. I dont know why as not a techo but Vimeo just seems to load quicker and play continously when I view movies in that format, quality is also exceptional. Youtube on the other hand frustrates the crap out of me.
Love that Dark side of the lens movie - its a classic and a real indication of the premium content quality you tend to find on vimeo -
Youtube will get you more views as its more universally used and known - but conversely you can get lost in the video blogs about
what my cat ate for breakfast / tips for sewing / my baby's first fart shot handheld and out of focus
Vimeo seems to give better quality without having to load up a massive file
or conversely
youtube quality can be as good but you have to load up a much larger file than you would need with vimeo
conclusion - youtube compresses the video alot more - probably because they have such a massive worldwide volume - something like 48 hours of video gets posted on there every twenty minutes
This situation can change over time as youtube (and vimeo) change their strategies / settings behind the scenes
i upload 5000 kbs mpeg 4 to vimeo for really nice flicks-youtube needs around 9000 kbs to get similar quality
I usually dont bother with HD as most people wont bother - i find 800 x 450 is a nice size if you are coming from 720p or 1080 p
Remember- always deinterlace (or shoot progressive in the first place)
Youtube due to their size attracted the ire of Sony with regard to music rights - so alot of people uplaod massive files only to find that their Michael Jackson thriller soundtrack has been made silent.
Vimeo does not have software in place to automatically detect use of copyright restricted music content. With YouTube, you can spend hours on a clip then upload only to find that they have muted your soundtrack.
