I'm planning a trip with my family in September to Margaret River for a week. At first I just thought we would rent a house there for a week but since then have changed my mind. I'd like to stay in Freo for 2 nights and Margaret River for 3 nights. Just need to fill in the other 2 nights.

As I've never been there before, I'm just looking for suggestions on somewhere between to spend the other 2 nights. Most places seem to have a two night minimum.

Thats a lot of moving around from day to day. If you stay longer in MR you could jump to the northern side of the cape and see Dunsborough and Busselton... Check out this link for holiday houses in MR - they have cheaper low season rates

Closest to the beach is Gnarabup and Prevelly.

Like Cammo... try the northern end of the Cape around Yallingup and also Bunker Bay.

Should be plenty of accommodation around Dunsborough / Yallingup - including houses for short term rent.

Pick one place to stay - Margaret River or Dunsborough - then move around from that base. Two days here and there takes up alot of time otherwise spent surfing.

Send us a message when you are heading South and try to hook up. Sept is a pretty good for waves down south.

Best places to visit would be Margaret River, Fremantle and Rottnest Island (great even for 2 days). Not much between Margaret River and Fremantle to recommend. Enjoy!

Thanks for the responses.

I've been to Freo before and liked it and want to show the family. Probably go over to Rottnest for a day trip. I'll spend the rest of the holiday around Margaret River as per your suggestions.

Good suggestion about the Yallingup cabin, great spot for SUP and no need to drive for a surf and the family happy. Try for one overlooking the surf.

I think I'll book somewhere around Smith's Beach - looks great. Might be a good idea to hire a sup for a week, can I hire one somewhere close by?
