This topic doesn't belong on this forum...........however.............the ausies got eveything they deserved and are now crying like babies. If they want to go down there and deliberately attempt to disable Japanese (not Japs) ships with ropes, floats etc then bad luck for them if it doesn't go their way

SO ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES DONT BELONG ON THIS FORUM?

I THOUGHT A FORUM OF LIKE MINED PEOPLE WHO ENTER THE MARINE FOOD CHAIN FOR RECREATION MAY BE INTERESTED IN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES .

DO YOU SUGGEST WE ALL TAKE OUR CARBON FIBRE PADDLES DIG A HOLE IN THE SAND , STICK OUR HEADS IN IT , RAISE OUR BUTTS TO THE SKY AND TRUMPET A FAN FARE AS WHALES HEAD SOUTH TO BE SLAUGHTERED BY THE JAPANESE.

Have a good look at the video - judging by the wake it was not a stationary vessel when it was rammed. And THEBIRD I realise you are passionate about this but writing in CAPS is the equivalent of shouting. I agree with the cause but your attitude is just like the attitude of the guys in the SEASHEPERD - BLOO.. RUDE and IMO actually damages the cause by polarising the community. Most people react badly to acts of terrorism no matter what the cause.

How do you feel about 16,000 children dying of hunger related causes EVERY DAY.

What about 2100 political prisoners in Burma alone.

OK, we must be watching different videos then. These acts of terrorisim you talk of must not extend to environmental terrorism (slaughtering whales for no good reason)

Why is it that people who lob onto the forum all bluff and bluster NEVER have the guts to put their real name in their profile. Reminds me of DJ's promotional mate a week or so ago.

It's a pity because I don't think a discussion about whaling is out of place on this forum and I'm sure plenty of people have opinions that would be interesting...but now it's just become another sh.t fight.

Drewsta don't get me wrong - I am totally against what the Japanese are doing - it's wrong wrong wrong IMO.

However I think that the extreme acts of the SEASHEPERD actually damage the credibility of the anti-whaling global community. I have no problem with the cause just the technique.

You need to look at the video again and take off the biased blinkers.
Ask a Japanese person (espeially if they served in WW2) if they like being called "Japs"; the ones I know certainly don't whereas we call ourselves aussies with pride. Very racist my friend

A few months ago my mate and I had the privilege to paddle along side a mother hump back and her calf for most of Kirra beach 1 metre apart the whole way. She was the biggest living thing I have been that close too and also the most gentle beautiful creature I have ever encountered. For these "scumbags" whatever their race is to slaughter these beautiful innocent animals is a act of terriosm on the very ocean that we all hold so dear. If a few individuals have the courage to stand up to this slaughter for so called science and then shame on us for letting this happen in our slice of the world!!!!

I knew this topic would start a sh-t fight. So I'll jump in the ring.I totally disagree with the slaughter of whales for what purpose, research BS. I totally agree with Jonathan,if they changed the way they operate in the ocean they would receive more support.
Most Australians are appalled with the killings and to ad to this topic, remember we are talking about the same folk who catch sharks ,cut their fin off ,let them die slowly just to make shark fin soup.
I was a mad Midnight Oil fan way back, so come on Peter show some balls and practise what you preached 20 years ago.

touchy subject...............lol.........ouch!!!!!!

i talked to a real old digger type dude the other day that said to me that the aussie gov. are pussies for not making a stand about anyone killing anything in an australian waters "PROTECTED SANTUARY" which is what is going on in the southern ocean be it patigonian tooth fish, tuna or friggin moby dick or even migalo the 12ft glide white whale

he summed it up by stating

"that i bet that the yanks would not put up with that type of bullsh1t in there protected waters and that they would just drop another bomb on them"

not real nice words but i had a few giggles

if it was an australian boat killing whales off japan in a protected santuary i think the whole senario might play out to a slightly different tune

I agree with the Sea Sheperds aims but I do question their motives and I particularly dont like being treated like an idiot.

Sea Sheperd portrayed themselves as completely innocent in this ramming situation when I feel that is unlikely to be the case. I saw the video and its obvious they positioned their boat provocatively close to the Jap ship. The smaller, faster, more agile vessel is obliged to give way to the larger one.

I agree with the previous poster who said they are polarising the situation and going to lose supporters because of this. And sinking brand new boats doesnt impress anyone.

Why would I want to donate money to or support Sea Sheperd when they get some kook captain to put the Batboat under a whaler on day 1? Massive Fail.

kook captain is about right, intentions may be pure, execution is almost piracy, however captain rudd and first mate garrett need to step up,seashepard needs to video the slaughter and thats all

One small issue here: The Australian waters bit. Only about 3 countries in the world actually recognise our rights to the waters. If it's not recognised it can not be fought about. Krudd and Garret really can't do a thing otherwise upset trade partners we sell our resources to.

Sea Sheperd losing members: Don't think so, they needed something like this to happen. They are seen as a renegade, extremist version of Greenpeace. Without this kind of thing occasionally happening there brand (and that's what they sell to fund the organisation) means nothing.

Did you not notice the coolest sticker on your board or car or shirt to wear was a Sea Shepherd one? This little incident will help their cause no-end. People love a renegade, it keeps you interested. Very clever actually.

My media professor told me something back in '94 that I will never forget:

If a dog bites a man that's not news, but if the man bites the dog well clear the front page and headlines....
