Hey all I am only really new to SUP and very excited to get stuck right in, thought I would share my new board collection story.

I travelled down from Launceston to Hobart to collect my new Fanatic Fly 10'6, spent the day working rocked up payed strapped her on and of we go for the 2.5hr trip home.

All going well bopping away to some tunes when I thought I saw my new board lift a little, I though no cant be it was strapped down perfectly, next thing its just GONE I could not believe my eyes!!! I pull over and to my utter amazement not only had the board taken off put the roofracks had gone to!!!!!! I looked up the road could not see it anywhere I started looking around and off all the places it ended up was half way up a tree still attached to the roofracks, did not even touch the ground.

I only had purchased the new roof racks and was not happy with the fit but the sales guy ensured me that they were the ones for my car WRONG!!!!

I still had the allenkey in the car so I re-attached the racks/board and drove the rest of the way like a nanna. I got home and took the board off and opened it with all fingers and toes crossed that my new pride and joy had survived.

To my total delight not even a scratch!!! Talk about FANATIC FLY!!

Anyway really looking forward to the weekend and getting the girl wet, hopefully incident free!!hahaha

Cheers,
Kane

Hey Kaneb,

Stoked to hear a story like this that turned out the right way.

Kristi and I saw a guy in Adelaide drive down the road and all 3 boards flew of the roof and shattered as they hit the ground.

Hope you get some smoking rides on the Fanatic

Great story and very lucky..

I had a similar experience once (about 30yrs ago) driving back from the island and just past where the giant worm is now and my mates roof racks lifted off at high speed with our two windsurfers side by side and another mates new short board on top of our windsurfers.. We looked back as it flew through the air about twenty feet up.. This was back in the days before two piece masts and as the whole lot started to nose dive back towards the road our two masts that were tied each side on the outside of our boards touched the road the whole thing landed flat and slid along the road behind us sliding on the roof rack brackets.. It slid off the side of he road and onto the grass.. No damage at all.. Amazing.. We lifted the whole thing back on the roof and tightened it back onto the gutters of the roof (old HR Holden i think) and drove home.. We were also ucky buggers..

The exact thing happened to me at home in NZ on a snowboard trip, used the temporary roof racks that supposedly are safe and secure, put 3 snowboards side by side and strapped them down good, all brand new, mine was in the center with a board bag the other two didn't.

Drove for 3.5hours to the mountain, just about there when a logging truck came round a big sweeping bend drifted over the center line and popped the snowboard wing off the roof - I remember saying something awesome earlier in the am like "These are that secure, it won't be a single board that somes off, it will be the whole thing".

Lucky enough for me there was limited damge to the new boards on the rails and my board was fine in the board bag, but the roof rack was a gonner. interesting trip on way home that afternoon with all the boards inside the car

I invested in a Thule Sup carrier a while ago and love it, have carried 3 boards round successfully on a few occasions.

Glad the Fanatic was ok, you'll love the board.
