Just bought a h2o waterproof pouch for IPhone, Ipod etc etc.

While I had no issues with the cost of the pouch the waterproof headphones seemed a little exy at over $100.

What have you tried? how much was it? sound quality?

Any advice appreciated.

If you aren't surfing in them and only fall in occasionally it's amazing how long cheap regular headphones last, certainly quite a few quick dunkings. Saying that I did buy some of the H2O headphones in Maui, cost me US$60 at a surf shop, bet you could buy them online and have them shipped here for less than that and way less than $100. I bought some polarised RayBans online and delivered from the US, the cost was less than half what they wanted for them here and they arrived in less than a week on the cheapest freight option. The only scary thing about it all is that you will see how much cheaper the pouch would have been by mail order

I got the H2-O arm band pouch along with H2-O headphones, but ended up buying a second set of H2-O headphones with coil cable and a band to hold it above the ears. Makes it much easier to keep them in your ears as you're thrashing your arms about with the paddle. I'm sure Jonathan's right about the cheap headphones lasting. But the downside is they don't come with a picture of Laird.

Yep, already checked and with conversion and postage was only slightly suicidal..

I am just using normal IPod headphones now and thought as much with lasting a while.

Anybody tried the Overboard headphones? $29.95 on line but if they sound like crud i'd rather just use my extensive collection of old headphones until I need to go waterproof.

What we really need is a waterproof/resistant Bluetooth headset so that we can get rid of the cables. Does anyone know anything about these?

I have gone thru 3 x mp3 players ($14.95 each) in my time of 3 yrs SUPin.

1 died as i did fall in LOL
1 i lost
and i'm still using the 3rd up til this day.

I only use it for flat water distance paddling, if i was to get one for open ocean i would spend the $ for something good waterproof.

Thanks Ang, I am slipping the wires through my camel pack and putting the waterproof pouch in the pack so just the wires coming up the back of my neck to my ears. Very comfortable and I am blown away by the difference music makes to your motivation while on the water. Don't know why, I would never run without music.

I will be using it in the ocean and flats. Not the surf. Found an app that runs with GPS to plots your course on google maps automatically with speeds and gives you voice updates on pace, distance and time through the headphones. I will let you know how good it works soon.

Sony came out with / anounced a waterproof mp3 player (Sony NWZ-W250) that looks like the headphones that wrap around the back of your head - no wires attached, 4gb storage. Can't find a price or an Aus release date though.

I don't know, but I like the sound of the birds, the waves, the wind, the paddle suction vacuum noise when you draw too hard....

But if I was racking up k's on distance training runs it would be good.

Same in the snow, I like to hear the board hitting the snow, hear the displaced snow hitting the trees, and to hear my mates scream "hey, check this out !!" Just before they do something stupid !!

Hey CMC,
Can you give more details on the app that runs with GPS to plots your course on google maps automatically with speeds and gives you voice updates on pace, distance and time through the headphones? I would be very keen to give this a crack. Cheers

The app I run is GPS Motion X but it doesn't provide voice updates so far as I know.
