I'll be working unfortunately, but I hope you get some good runs over the next few days - and some go pro footage.

Don't want to be a nanny, but for those new to this be aware that you should have a PFD - as the St Kilda to Sandy run can take you more than 400m from shore.

Good point Ross.. but it's not a problem if you stay in close..

Safety is a bigger issue/concern when there's some nor'easter in the wind because it can blow your off shore.. Tomorrow should have nor'west in it.. so if anything the wind should be blowing you towards shore..

We will stay together and have a few stops along the way to regroup.

It's actually almost impossible to stay within 400 metres of shore during a StKilda to Sandringham downwinder. Unless you come in close to Point Ormond and hug the beach around to Brighton Yacht Club, then you will inevitably be at least 600 metres away from Elwood Beach. I don't think anyone has ever done that on a downwinder that I've been a part of. Therefore, anyone not wearing a PFD on that downwind run is liable for a fine which is several hundred dollars. If you want to do the downwind run, get yourself an inflatable PFD at the very least. It costs a lot less than the fine.

I know someone who often does stay close.. Good point though.. I will be letting the water police know our plans beforhand so you never know if they might come past and check us out.. They haven't in the past but you never know.. I'll talk to Mike at SHQ sandy kiosk and ask him about a cheap rental of his PFD's.. I'm sure he'd jump at it and he has heaps there for his windsurfing and sup lessons.. There's also Rohan next door at his kayak business.. He's a good guy and would be happy to help out.

I can't get the current Seabreeze forecast map at the moment, something's gone wrong with it and it's showing me the forecast from last week. On Baywinds, I'm getting the brown arrows for Friday - 40 knots - but it looks like it's swinging west fairly early. Might be best to make the most of Wednesday/Thursday, and hopefully Friday will still be good, but don't depend on it.

yeah looking like lots of west in it for Friday. I'm either working or riding herd on kids this week (grrrr school hols) so unless a miracle occurs I'll be watching DJ's vid rather than being in it.

PT you're up late..not watching Le Tour are you??

Yesterday's (Wed) downwinder was good.. Today's (Thu) will be awesome.

It's been a constant 35 knots for hours and should stay like that for our run.

There was certainly some brown wind out there.
I'm sure DJ will be able to make a long bloopers video entirely out of me falling repeatedly into the soup.
Good fun though and great to feel connected with nature as salty water drips out of my sinuses

Inflatable PFD, what the. Is someone out there spying on me. Its been my experience before that bum bag inflatables have inflated many times on me when not needed. Also I have been approached by the water police before asking about inflatables. When I am by myself more then 400m out I where a PFD vest so relax. But in saying that thanks for your advise and concerns. It good to have someone watching ya back.
