Hi everyone i am a SUP virgin and are looking for info into my first board.

I dont want one for flat water paddeling.
95% is to be surfed mainly at Lancelin reefs and Wedge (bombing range)
I surf longboards at the moment my biggest is a 9ft the other a 8ft.
I am 120kg
Really looking for a high performance board that will still float/paddle me

Cheers

Jabba.

I'd be looking closely and comparing the following four boards for your weight:
Naish 11'4"
Starboard Whopper or Blend
PSH 10-6 or 11 Wide All Rounder

I paddled the PSH 11' on Saturday and it would float you for sure. I didn't surf it, but I did surf the 10'6 and I liked it a lot. If the 11' surfs for you (120kg) as well as the 10'6 sufed for me (100kg) I am sure you would be happy with it. Have a look at the Balmoral Boards web page they are the importer - http://www.balmoralboards.com.au/templates/bal/page/page_standard.php?secID=378. You would have to check about freight costs.

Like DJ said the Naish 11'6 would be worth a look. I surfed mine a lot before I sold it. It would probably have more stability for your weight than the PSH, it has more volume and much fuller rails. It surfs well if you keep it out on the face of the wave but it gets buffeted badly if you get it into the white water.

Another option would be a custom board. With the dollar the way it is a custom epoxy board is cheaper than most imported boards. Have a look at the Laguna Bay boards, they have a lot of experience with SUP boards and I like the look of their shapes - www.noosasurfworks.com.au/standup.html. I just has a look at the time, Australia Day, add a Kia Kaha paddle and you have an all Australian kit.

I think it is only the 11'6" Da Kine bag that was used to transport the sub vector back that is for sale.

I am going to disagree with DJ here, not the 11'6" Naish. You will simply grow out of the 11'6" too fast, everyone I know that bought one had them for only a few months before upgrading. It might be a great board if you will be mainly on flat water with a bit of surf thrown in, but that doesn't sound like you. I love my 11'4 as it is a more performance oriented board that will still float a big guy and is stable enough for someone who has spent time on other surf craft.

You may be right (about the bag)..

You are also right about the 11'6" Naish for most people but at 120kgs he's is a big boy and I'm not sure the 11'4" will have enough floatation.

Demo'ing one will soon tell.

You may struggle on the 10 6" at 120 kgs
I would check out the 11 2" starboard, rips for a big board & paddles great, also the 11 6" kalama would float you & surfs well for a big girl

Jabba I am 120-125kg's and SUP the same places you are wanting to go...

I learnt on the Naish 11'6". (there was not many other options when I bought it)

I have now moved to the Naish 11'4" which is great, easy enough to get to the outer reefs and a much better surf craft.

Jabba,
My 2 bobs, Try any options to sample if they are availible to you.
I am 194 cm and 110 and ride H/P 9 footers in a longboard, in a Stand up i have a 12 ft tuflite which can be Comfortably piloted in anything less than double overhead. It all comes down to you and the quality of the waves you frequent.
