Hello everybody,
My name is Luana, I am from Brazil. SUP has almost just arrived in here. I wonder if you could give me some advice.

I am a windsurfer (5 years), kitesurfer (2 years) and a begginer at this SUP stuff.... Which tail do you think I should ask the shaper to use in my SUP, as I intend to go cruising and surfing small to medium waves?

well, here in Brazil we usually make boards... like custom ones... Sometimes it is cheaper than importing from Naish, Starboard etc. There are some friends who are always in Hawaii (like Eraldo Gueiros - surfer - Carlos Burle - Big Rider/Tow in world champion) that buy boards there (that are being sold at some store they pass by).

A friend, who is a traditional surfer (doesn´t use SUP) said I should ask for the round squash. Another one told me about the half moon... I saw last week one that had the swallow fish... I am confused... could you help me? I am thinking about the round squash… which one do I choose?! I am thinking about a 9'8"...
Thanks!

Regards, Luana

Luana 9'8" is a very small board for a beginner Sup and is no good for cruising , but to answer your question and if want to build a performace Sup first up I would go to a swallow tail.

Hello Luana
I´m also from Brazil (live in Saquarema) and agree with Piros suggestion... a 9'8" for a beginner is pretty small, you will have a hard time to learn. My SUP is a 10' with a round squash tail as your friend recomended, shaped by Chatii from São Paulo, very good board. If you wanna see it and to compare prices, send me an email and i´ll send you some pics of my board. [email protected]
Um abraço
Ivan

Tail shape are a personal thing and it's you that has to like it no matter what others say or think.

These shapes can be a fashion or trend thing and sometimes what looks cool once can look very uncool later.

I've always liked the classic round/pin myself.. Like this board..(see link) ..It's a shame the picture doesn't show the whole tail.
