G'day blokes I have been watching this forum for a while and I'm after some advice.
I am 6'2 tall and weigh 125kg now i'm not like flubber .
I surf a Munoz 12ft longboard and I'm trying my hands at SUP.
I have a 12x30x4 3/4 stand up board that I purchased 2nd hand .
I have to go home and see the name of it as I dont remember it (It's not major brand)
I have found that in flat water while paddling most of the side rails are under water.
It seems to float me ok but I dont know any better.
I havent surfed it as yet but I will soon find out how crap it is.
Do you guys know or have seen guys that are heavy as me what they are riding?
Or what dimentions?
I do want to surf the board, not flat water,(only when its flat)
Thanks

Im 125 kgs, and are comfortably surfing on a 10'10" Walden (31.25 wide). The board is great when it gets a bit choppy, and surfs quite well.

Im running it with an 11" single fin. The single fin made this a new board, as I was frustrated with the 2 plus 1 set up.

Ive tried a few boards, but most of them sit an inch under water which makes them very unstable!

The Starboard 10'5" at 156L was surfable, but was submerged.

cheers

A mate about that size has the PSH 10 6 WAA would be worth a demo or the 11 WAA. 30" wide would be minimum The PSH boards surf really well for their size. Others use the Starboard Whopper at 34" wide.

Try and demo boards only way to tell.

PSH 11' WAA is made for your weight. 30 5/8 wide, 4 7/8 thick. See if Balmoral will let you demo one. This board was made to surf.

Thanks for that .
I would be trying boards before I buy because I always get sold the wrong thing.
The shop that I bought from will trade in in full but I thing he only gets NAISH
boards and surftech.
He mentioned the MANA 35inch wide at 250L but I was told that it is a mistake from
factory.
The NAISH 11'6 x29 5/8x5 1/2 looks alright.
Any thoughts on this

You sound like you would be alright on the 10 foot Mana and they surf really good would be better for you than the 10.5 mana.

Mate the 11'6'' isnt too bad... was my first board... doesnt surf that well compared to the range of boards out now but it does the job....

I ride the SB10'0 whopper (34'' wide) at 115kgs... pretty good board for surfing... quite boyant and stable... try and demo if you can!

Got me one of those Naish 11'6 and am about your weight...found it a handfull in the surf to start with but learning....great flat water paddling and easy to catch waves...bought it to go out when i normally would not bother and have not looked back...couple of photos..

XXL Hazza,

The 10ft Manna will give you 1.52 times your body weight in float and that IMO is close to just OK for a beginner paddler. The advantage of the Manna is that it is 32 wide so should be more stable my calc is normally for 30 inch wide boards or less.

The 10'6 Manna is a small sea going vessel and should be ordered with the optional 300hp outboard motor and registered with marine safety laughs.

I have 2 friends that paddle 12 ft lairds at your weight 125kg and with a cut away fin they find them fine in large and small surf.

The 11ft PSH would be good if your more experience as it surfs extremely well for a board of that size but it will be twitchy to start with.

I have heard the wopper is also a great board.

My 2 cents

hey Hazza,
IMO , Go have a yarn to some of your local shapers down there and see what thay can offer, something around the 170 - 200 litres i',m guessing, depending on skill level.
Big boppers have been raving about the Whopper and say it surfs well.

Man you guys are helpfull
I just come back from 3weeks of surfing at Waikiki, had a great time.
While surfing POPS and ridding long rights for ever, the paddle back was hurting my
back.(L4-L5 worn out).
I would see Dino Miranda sup back and laugh at me,top bloke.
I had to try this form of surfing when I got home,so here I am asking questions.
Looking forward to this challenge.

My vote goes the Starboard Whopper x 34 wide and still surfs remarkably well , plus it's well priced. or just get a custom built with a bit more juice in the nose and tail , you'll also find if you keep at this you won't be 125kg for much longer.

I agree with Piros,

If you SUP for a few months the kilos will just melt off.

Dogman says he has to eat 50 pies a day to keep his fuller figure

I prefer Doritos and salsa washed down with Carona

As far as the Naish boards go either the big 11'6" Nalu or 10' Mana would be a good choice.

The 11'6" would be better allround/flat water/down-winder and the odd surf.. etc.

The 10' Mana would be a better board for the surf... Both are great boards.

I am with DJ on this one. I have a friend who surfs the 9'5 Mana and weighs 210lbs and rips on it. So the 10'0 would be a great choice and so would the 11'6 Nalu, overall you can buy something that challenges you a little more simply because learning to SUP does not take long.

Starboard Whopper is a great board and you will love the surfability of it. the 11.6 naish is also a good board but the starboard has just as much float but is more stable and surfs soooo much better. (and it's lighter to carry)

Boy since starting regular surfing 1year ago I weight 138KG
When I trained 15 years ago I was 150KG
Enough of that...
I just came back from Belmoral surf shop and talked with Jason.
He recomended the 11PSH W and the 10.5 Naish Mana.
He says That it will float me OK, plus they both rip.
I might also do some investigating on the Laird 12.1.
And Naish 11.6 so I can paddle some down winders.

Big time, Hazza is pumped.

BP, You may not what to think about this, but I had a board delivered to me that had a smashed up nose. It looked like it had been run over by the back wheels of the truck.

Hey XXL Hazza,
I bought Homeally's old 11'6 Naish when I started SUPing a few months ago and have loved it to start on, excellent for balance for the novice, ( I usually ride mals) but after demoing Homeally's Whopper a couple of weeks ago I'm hooked and want one. It surfs heaps better and is very stable and easy to manage whilst you are learning the art of the continuous paddle in the surf. It feels like a short board in the surf after the Naish, it turns great. I'm about 112kgs and have demoed a few boards but most didn't float me well but these two worked for me.
Cheers, 'Spiro'

Having bounced of the rails of a PSH Wido Maker recently, fallen on it, dropped it, face planted several times, nutted myself, etc.

You would seriously have to abuse it to the extreme in transport one would think to damage it.

What damage, where and how much?
