Hi SUPers,

Entering my first Sydney winter with a SUP and I'm not sure what will work when the water gets a bit colder.

So would like to know if you just wear a normal surf steamer or shortie, or something else so that paddling's easier.,

I've got an Orca, not sure how that would go.

Any thoughts?

TIA

Depends what your doing. 3/2 steamer is great for surfing.

Never quite nailed what to wear for touring paddles where I may not hit the water. Have made do so far with various combinations of thermal rashie, normal rashie, lavacore long pants and board shorts. Guess its best to to be hot but prepared to hit the water if needed.

If you're surfing and getting wet, a good quality steamer is a must from July to September. However, you might be okay in a spring suit if you don't feel the cold.

I paddle in these pants and a tee shirt if I'm not getting too wet............

They're also good for surfing in the warmer months for comfort and UV protection.

I just put another tee shirt under my wet suit. I did buy an expensive lined rash shirt but found that the key is to hold a small amount of water in the tee shirts to keep wind chill out and warm in.
As one gets older or more sensitive to cold just add another tee shirt
Best value for money and flexible depending on conditions on the day ie the layer effect

I have a Merino undershirt and a Vaikobi V Cold rashie. That and a pair of wetsuit pants and good to go. Not too hot, and not cold at all...

Went to Manly first week of July last year.
Paddled out in wetsuit shorts and rashie.
Ocean side.
Water warmer than Port Phillip in summer.
Boardies and a T shirt should do it.
Man up!
