Hi All,

Every couple of years my missus has disappeared off for a week to get away from it all, sailing in the Whitsundays before we had kids, Cambodia before we had our second son, and Perth to get a break from the three of us

Anyhow she's pointed out that I should really take a week out and get away from it all this year and she's probably right.

We went to Waikiki at then end of last year and I loved it there as I'd only flat water paddled and so it was a great place to catch that first wave, but it's a lot of $ and more importantly a lot of travelling so reducing my time SUPing.

I really just want to get better on my SUP in the waves without the crowds, maybe learn to surf as well and then sit in a cafe and read and just slow down in general.

Anybody got any thoughts of a location that would be nice for a week in the next couple of months. Closer would better for cost and travel time, but if there's somewhere that'd just be perfect then I'll happily jump on a plane.

Is there some magical place on the coast within driving distance of Sydney with a hire shop, guest house and cafe on the beach which is guaranteed some smallish waves then I'd be in heaven as I can ride the motorbike up too

Any help and guidance that you can offer would be gratefully appreciated,

Tak

Yeah i had a couple of goes down at Iluka , but it was really windy choppy and i spent more time in the drink than standing , but when i managed to catch a wave it was great! So much easier to turn and get the board up on the foam.I was suprised how fast it paddled in flat water too.

From what I have read and seen on this site , I would be off to W.A in a heart beat. or if thats too far try Dogman's turf northern NSW around Coffs or Minnie Water pretty laid back and heaps of waves.

I went to Tassie for the first time a couple of weeks ago and if you are after small waves without crowds - that's all I saw the whole time I was traveling up the East Coast. If you like your seafood, cherries, berries and a glass of wine then you will absolutely love it. Margaret River is also another great place - come to think of it there are fantastic spots all around our coastline.

Coles Bay, Tasmania.

well if you wanna get away from it for a bit you could try the south coast - less busy/crowded than heading north. Anywhere I reckon starting from Gerroa, Seven Mile beach down to Sussex even.

Even if you went closer to Sydney around the Windang/Wariila area there's the lake there which opens up into the ocean. Google Map (satellite)the area and check it out !

looks like south coast between windang and gerroa or further south to JB is winning so far? it certainly fits the criteria for a family holiday. I should know its my backyard.
you'll get knee high to over head conditions in the surf and some great flat water paddling or down winders
If you choose south coast pm me and I can give you some tips or we can catch up there's a very casual crew down here with not much hassel

yeah i would go bali if i had the coin
but if you thinking local go down south to where the mambo was at merimbula its an unreal place and has many options for waves plus accomodation. Also if you took the coast road down there on the way the are about 1000 waves or so to surf and places to stay i would get a copy of mark warrens surf guide book and hit the road wish i could do that!

Robbo land - sounds exactly what you are after (not sure about the board hire though). I'm heading there tomorrow for a week. Will post some photos/video.

Thanks Guys,

Hadn't thought of Noosa, but loved it there when I went with the family a couple of year ago.

Will see what Casso's photos are like when he comes back and then look into the hiring.

All the best,

Tak
