This shot taken in bali, Bingin shows a SUP paddling in this narrow take off spot, what do you think about?

Nice bottom turn.

I'd say the sup has some kind of reason to be there. Otherwise he could become unpopular.

But really, I'd ask why? It's the wrong craft for the break IMO. Why limit yourself?

see the bold, I think you (or I) have miss read the title. I take it as Kami saying, if a sub 6 foot shortboard is the norm, why would you SUP (any size), or is it ok? NOT a sub 6 foot SUP....

If that the case, some people SUP because they cant prone surf...

I've surfed all lengths of boards for nearly 20 years and have surfed Bingin on short boards in the past as well as some other great little waves in Bali. I'd gladly take my SUP out there and mix it up with the short boards showing obvious respects the locals deserve...why...since taking up SUP surfing I have since found no love for anything other than SUP riding and have subsequently sold all my prone boards ranging from short boards, mini mals and mals to fund a better range of SUP boards so I'd have no choice if I wanted s surf :)
Not only this but wanting to challenge yourself further on your vessel of choice means you push your limits in more trying conditions which Bingin may be for this bloke.
I'll give SUP surfing a go pretty much anywhere but do try where possible to find respect for other surfers and find an alternate "best SUP wave" if required due to crowds etc.... If this picture was Binging with 30 short boarders sitting tight on the mark and 1 SUP rider...Tell him he's dreaming!

Maybe he's good at SUP and crap on a short board. If he's working in with everybody else and not making a pest of himself then what's the problem?

If he is making a pest of himself then he's an arsehole, doesn't matter whether he's riding a SUP or not.

If the short boarders are getting grumpy just because he's on a SUP then they are arseholes.

Seems simple enough.

++. Pretty much says it for me. I've got the right of course to surf where I want. At the same time
I want to enjoy the session and won't force my rights in a crowd. Sup allows me to explore plenty
of other waves that the crowds for whatever reason ignore.

I agree, that the kind of reply i'm waiting about, Thank you.

D'ont be sorry did think about challenging this wave with a small SUP able to start crossing the peak from the turmoil far right and fall under the lip as bodyboarders used to do on this narrow take off, passing over other surfer fair turn except for locals. But i will never do that because i better shortSUP peacefully somewhere out of unfair strategies and i'm too old to see the day when surfing become a finless paddle stand up shortboard.

Today, Sydney got the biggest swell it's had in months. I've been mainly prone surfing over summer, and have been craving some big waves for ages. But I happened to pick up a JP wide body the other day, and instead of heading out today with a shortboard in 4 maybe 5 foot swell, I chose the sup. Was not disappointed. Surprised at how well the board handled the drop. Safe to say the shortboards will not get much use for a while. But there'll be a time when I want to use them too. It's good having lots of toys!
