I always thought there were two main surf/sup shops here in Melbourne (SHQ and RPS).

Now it seems there's three.. There's Zak's.. and today I went there for the first time.

Recently a few friends had told me about Zak's and said that I should check it out for myself.. I said who the hell is Zak? .. and where the hell is Thornbury?

Anyway.. Today I went for a ride across town to check out this shop and see if it's as good as what they guys say it is.. I took some pics while I was there.

It turns out that the shop is more of a surf museum than a shop and I took heaps of pics inside of the great surfing memorabilia that they had throughout the shop.

I almost rode past thinking it was a scooter shop.. Here's a few to pics that I took before going inside.

DJ has posted pics from inside RPS, SHQ, possibly SUP HQ at the StKilda Seabaths though I don't recall seeing them, and now Zaks. That's every Melbourne retailer of SUP gear. DJ gets his own gear direct from Naish and Kialoa distribs so he has no $$$ relationship with any of the retailers.

Thanks DJ. I've been meaning to check that boardstore out. It's actually kind of close to the in-law's (out-law's ). At least I know what it looks like the approach now....

your right it's a surf shop and from all accounts a real surf shop and it's been around a while.

Simondo-head in and check out the Vouch boards, they make some sweet hulls and retros!

It's funny how crew get on their high horse about advertising and brand pimping but if its in Vic and it's "cool real surf shop" its ok - give us a break

The boys from Zac brought the Luke Shot demo boards down the the Sup Vic event today, had a long demo on a 8ft 6 board, reluctant to give the board back, fantastic performance board.

For me, its always refreshing to check out good original surf shops, rather than the "barn like" surf lifestyle commercial outlets, besides retail is hard for the smaller blokes and they need all the help to survive, check them out.

i'm not really in favour of this either.

how do you think it would go if i did the same - like 'i wondered into greenline today' or 'i wandered into the roar shop' and plastered photos all over the place.

-not real good i reckon. besides copping grief online it would probably get pulled.

cool shop or not, zak should put the money out and advertise like everyone else on the breeze.

i reckon those paying the adv money on the breeze would be flithy.

Sorry Lacey I have to disagree with you mate.

If a guy drives out of his way to check out a REAL surf store and posts a couple of pictures ( from the outside ) good on him for sharing the information.

Did he receive anything or did the store ask him to post the pictures,no.

Its a sad forum when a innocent post like this one is classified as pimping.

Theres been plenty of topic's which have mentioned Roar and Greenline without
causing grief,its all about sharing information which is different from blatant pimping.

I'll russh into Zaks and check out the BMW scooter next time I am down

i wouldn't mind if there was some photos inside the shop and of some boards etc.

but location, location, location

i guess i'll have a busy day taking photos from the street of all the shops and factorys of the people i know if it's the done thing

So does that mean we shouldn't have posts about DC, DTM and other custom boards, or which shop sells the latest and greatest...isn't that pimping according to the logic posted on this thread? I've never ben to Q'land but I certainly know about Roar and Greenline due to posts from Breezers mentioning them on this forum. So what's the difference?

It's not like Zak has posted on this forum self promoting his business. Lighten up, it's only a forum .

Incredibly busy this weekend working, just took a break for a cup of tea and read this. So funny..... I will take another break about 12:30, if you guys could add some more entertainment by then that would be great.

The slight differential with Zak's is that I've heard interestingly positive responses from 4 totally separate people, plus it is quite possibly one of the best surf shops over 100km from a surf beach. Melbourne north side....

Plus they seem to be stocking a reasonable range of Surfboards, "Hand Made in Australia".

It's going to be a great shop for me. When I'm bored out of my brain at the "out-laws", I can duck in there for a little bit.... 45-60 minutes of the day filled in....
