Who called it SUPing?
If you use a board in the surf its called surfing.
If you use a sail on a board it's called Windsurfing.
If you kite with a board it's called Kitesurfing.
Surely using a paddle with a board should be called Paddlesurfing.

If you tell anyone you have just been SUPing they have no idea what you're talking about! You then have to spend 5 minutes explaining what you do.

The full name "Stand up Paddle Surfing" is just too long, that's why we abbreviate it.
But "SUP" sucks. (imo)
Any other suggestions?

It will be interesting to see what name sticks...No one seems to like S.U.P.

It is a hassle explaining to people what sup is..btw..I say S.U.P. not sup..as in hey..waas-sup!..

PSH makes the latest-greatest SUP boards (imo) and PSH stands for Paddle Surf Hawaii...and they call it Paddlesurfing.

I like Paddlesurfing...My only problem with that is that it's done on rivers and lakes and it seems a little dumb having the word surfing in there..but it's no big deal.

I like paddlesurfing better than paddleboarding....Apparently most the guys in Hawaii just call it 'Stand Up'...That's also a little weird imo..

Saying that you do Stand-Up makes you sound like you're a comedian..

Personally, I don't like the word SUP, so I am going to refer to the sport from now on as Paddlesurfing. I think if enough people do this then eventually manufacturers and retailers will get the hint and the market will make the change.

Yeah I don't really like SUP either. Paddle boarding or paddle surfing sounds better to me but I think SUP is here to stay. I just tell people I'm planning to go to Italy and am training to get a job as a gondolier.
