Has anyone paddled down the Brisbane River starting at Wivenhoe Dam? I would be keen to know where to launch and where I will need to carry the board because of rapids and shallow water.

Mate have done it in a kayak quite a few times .we used to put in just outside lowood , on the Brisbane side .pretty sure you can get in under the dam wall but from memory it's a fair walk in . Near lowood you can drive down to the river .

There used to be a book available in BCF called something like kayaking southeast Qld which will tell you all you need to know ,

Nosaj27,
There are a couple of guys who did it last year and are doing it again this year.
They have posted on here about the trip.
If I knew how to find the post I would tell you.
Some guy on here smarter than me will know.
ET.

Found that book it's called places to paddle by Gerard Effaney

Pretty good book tells you distance between stops , shallow points etc . . Remembering it was written before the big floods a few years back so I reckon the river would have changed a fair bit .

Be careful just around the corner from fern vale . There used to be a fair sized bullshark cruising around the deep parts there ,Shat ourselves when we 1st saw it .but chances are it's gone out into moreton bay with the floods as well

Hi,

I did it this year with the team fund raising for white cloud. A great event, trip and cause. There are many occasions where you travel down small rapids. You will definitely ding a board and will smash the fin. An inflatable would be ideal, definitely wear rubber boots.

The scenery is great we went from lowood bend to coloe on the first day. You can now put in near the dam wall which has only just been opened.

Thanks everyone for your tips and warnings, not sure what we are going to to do yet. I was thinking College's Crossing to Graceville, hopefully all of the rapids/shallow water will be behind us.

No rapids college to graceville, you would want to pick the outgoing tide though

Gerard Effeney is a good mate of mine. He has been checking out the river post floods andhe tells me that he has a newer version of Places to Paddle coming soon.
