If you want to see some fabulous bits of timber, including wooden SUP's then look at www.grainsurf.com/forum/login.php?sid=08e65f28f8c71d120f4f24d42ef500b7 it's a site called Tree to sea and all they do is wooden boards.
Very nice, there is nothing like the natural wood finish. I'ld love one of those boards as a sup but would worry about the weight. Love the concept of planting trees and being sustainable and all that guff. How heavy is you mal DJ?
what are treehouse boards like? i looked into manufacturing my own timber board and after talking to one or two people realised that unless you are both a master craftsman AND a gifted board shaper, the time and money spent are highly likely to outweigh the outcome by 100%. i would dearly love to own a board which looks like this though.
The Treehouse boards are probably a bit different to the example here in that they are not hollow. They use a timber laminate over XPS (extruded polystyrene) foam. The boards are stong and light. I can't speak for the SUP's as I've only ridden the surfboards, but they seem incredibly fast and truely give the 'soul-surfing' flow. I'd liken the construction to a cross-over between a traditional surfboard lay-up and sailboard construction. It is still very intricate work, done by the "master craftsman" Dave.
I'd suggest getting in contact with him through the website if you want to know more. Friendly guy.
Yes they are really works of art, take a long time to produce. Its one of my goals in this lifetime, but I have to wait till I have built my retirees workshop at home, so all the travel time to the factory, can be spent building wood boards at home.
