Hi guys,

After building a few hollow wooden shortboards, I decided to build a stand up paddle board.
Well, it is now finished and I have added a few pics

Size: 9'9'' * 29 3/4'' * 4 1/2'' Weight: 12,3kg

The materials I used are:
- Paulownia and cork for the rails
- Paulownia for deck ad base
- Tailblock Australian Red Cedar
- Ribbings plywood
- Glassed with epoxy and a two pack top coat

Emanuel that is an absolutely beautiful looking board , well done mate. love the pic of the frame work and the nice clean workshop.

Great all round board design and specs , it should rip. So how many hours did this take ?

Awesome job - a beautiful looking board

Interesting laying up the rails like that before putting on the top and bottom skins?

Gorgeous looking board. Interesting to see no spine. It looks like it simplifies construction a bit.

It would be good to see some detail photos of the inside of the handle and the fin boxes.

It does look simpler but the rails are the spine or stringer anyway I'd reckon. Kind of like a firewire........

What an amazing board, something you would be proud to have on the wall even.....

Must be wonderful taking off on a few threatening waves & doing some sweet turns on a board you've made yourself A++ esp when the board looks sweet too. Wot would BP think ?

This begs the obvious questions:

- how do you get an accurate rocker line without a stringer?

- what software did you use to make the templates?

There are a lot of beautiful looking boards posted on this forum but your one is an absolute cracker. It looks as good on the outside as the work you've put into it on the inside. If you have any more photos of the construction process - please post them.

Fantastic work.
I was supping in Albany last christmas and there was a bloke out on a wooden SUP he had made and his son was surfing a homemade balsa fish shortboard. They look unreal. To me the wooden boards are priceless.
Would be interested to see how you strengthened around then fin box and plugs.

That is an insane construction, I love it. C'mon how much for us seabreezers....

The shape is great as well, that would be awesome in the small to medium waves.

Hi Yianni,
yeah I have surfed it and it's heaps fun. I'm a greenhorn in supping (started a week ago with this board) but caught a few fun waves yesterday and this morning. Two guys have tested it so far and were stoked. I'm pretty happy that it doesn't only look good but also surfs well! (No wall hanger!).
If anyone is keen to have a go on it, I live in Coffs Harbour NSW, just give me a buzz (woodandwater.com.au)and take it out for a surf!

Hi Piros,
I wish my workshop would always look that clean
It took me about 60 hours to build this board (making the templates and jigs not included).

Got the idea with the rail from hesssurfboards. I think he has a foam core in his boards and I use plywood stringers (prefer working with wood)

You're right, the rails are the stringer. Pretty much like the firewires, only that the core isn't made from eps foam and the top and bottom skins are paulownia instead of a pvc foam.
I put paulownia blocks in the board where the handle and fins are placed.

Hi Gorgo

I use the Aku Shaper (free download for non machine version) to design the boards.
After printing out the 1:1 profiles and slices I shape the internal ribs to get the rail thickness, then transfer the whole lot (board profile and rail thickness) into the rails (planshape). Might sound a bit complicated, but with constructing it that way the board rocker is pretty accurate.

saw this board at coffs. it better in real life if that is possible. and it is up to speed in performance from the little i know about sups. would be worth a bundle
