The last time I talked to Woogie Marsh he raved about his new 12'6" Coreban Alpha and yesterday I got to check it out and take some pictures.
I think Naish started this new concept in design with their 12' Glide.. From above it looks like a typical surfboard but side on it's nothing like a normal surfboard.
These boards are designed to work well in flat water.. Get planing early.. and still surf turned like a surfing board.. That's why they work so well on DW'ers.
The board was surprisingly light.. and much thicker than I expected.
The nose area had a nice dome to it and should recover from pearling and shed water quickly.. also not catch the wind when paddling in strong side winds.
Also a fair bit of nose rocker.. Another good thing for DW'ers.
The nose rail shape reminded me of the 12' Glide.
The tail looked like a normal pintail from above but side on shows that it's very thick.. Not designed for holding on on a wave face but to promote water release and stop any drag from water flowing over the tail area.
I was surprised to see no V in the tail at all.. another good thing for speed and not so good for surfing.
Even the mid section of the board remained flat.. Dead flat.
The nose area was also a bit of a surprise with a fair amount of V.. That's not something you see on most wave boards.
The deck had a nice concave that slightly lowers your center of gravity and also keeps the rails full and thick.
There was heaps of concave in the main standing area and it tapered off to the front and rear.
The rails are very full and pretty boxy in the mid to rear section.
The fin looked good and not too big.
For someone like Woogie to rave about this board I knew it would be something special.. and he was right.. I'm looking forward to trying it myself and seeing how it compares with the Naish 12' Glide..btw.. It's also a great board..
