Hi all, before I get sprayed for asking another "what board should I buy" question I am in a bind when it comes to SUP's. I live in Darwin and don't have access to a huge range of SUP (well only Naish 11' ++) to test. We do get waves - but mostly up to knee height for most of the year so I want something that will at least look like it is surfing and wont turn like the QE2. I'm moving my family to the Gold Coast, hopefully within 12 months, so I don't want to be in the position where I need to upgrade when I can get something now that is a good compromise. Surf wise - I ride 6'4 and 6'6 boards, waterski / wakeboard / wakesurf so I'm being generous in assuming that I can balance ok.
I guess to sum up my dilema - at 6'2 and 100kg (normally anywhere from 92 - 100kg) would I sink a Corban Icon on the flat water of Darwin??

Also - has anyone used a southpoint 9'6 as a beginner? I want to buy an SUP for my wife so we can have a shared hobby. She is 5'11 and 60kg and has pretty good balance.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any response (yes even if it is getting smashed for starting another of those what board should i get forums:))

Thanks for the reply on the Coreban. Should definately do the job nicely.

Yeah, the crocs and stingers are def a pain. Not too many big crocs around as they get removed from the Harbour and the stingers are only around in the wet. the full length lycra stinger suit and boardshorts take care of that but not exactly pro-tour surf wear!!!!!

Just to drive it home for you Turkish 5'9 105kg and in love with my Icon. Run the tri fin set up on anything remotely steep, I find the standard quads are a little under sized but great for tail sliding on those mushier days!! Enjoy
