Of course you have a paddle to contend with but one day SUP board progression plus rider progression will get us close to this kind of surfing....

beautiful surfing. how good, clean and fast are the cutbacks. really gets that body torque happening.

i think your young fella will be at the forefront of sup surfing if he sticks with it.

does he surf a normal shortboard at all
cheers

Hell what would I know . I've could never surf like that and definitely never will. But is it fun to surf like that?, the better surfers on this site may be able to tell me. Sure it looks athletic and "awesome" and stuff but sheet just give me Joel Tudor on a long board or Leco Salazar(?) on that stupid thin SUP or Keahi de Aboitiz on that blue board at "boiling pot"(I think) or dogman on that 12'6. Now that's surfing...... For me and I may be completely of beam here but "high performance" surfing is incredibly dull. It's like aqua formula 1 motor racing, dull as dog ****

Interesting to watch the McKee edit of this session. No doubt he was ripped off at that time getting no exposure for his developments to the quad. In the same movie Searching for Tom Curren he rides a Tommy Peterson fish, it launched a career for Tommy and he made a lot of money. McKee on the other hand did not even get recognized as the shaper of this board or his work on the quad.

'in search of tom curren ' is my all time favorite vid. i realized how much can be set up on a wave with a good bottom turn if you give yourself some room to do it. tom curren and the great mr when i was a young fella are my heros

One of the most interesting lunches ever was with Bruce McKee and Simon. I called it 3 meets 4. It all went over my head and interestingly enough they both make quads and thrusters.

i dont think sup will ever emulate the speed, power and body torque of the top shortboard pros but i recon someone out there will give it a good crack one day

i went thru all the vid footage of myself the other day and laughed at how slow and pathetic i looked compared to a normal every day joey six pack shortboard rider, not to mention how ultra pathetic i looked after watching those vids of taylor knox and co. shredding the cr@p out of lowers and jbay

Log man its not the size of the wave its not the size of the board you ride that gives you the buzz..any size wave and board does that.... its all about drawing different lines angles and drive which creates the feels and different sensations we all like and making a board slot slide carve and send ice of the rails..........OPEN YOUR MIND MY FRIEND and get barreled

More pro surfers need to watch tom curren with out doubt his style is as good or better than many surfing now
