a few of us decided to do a dw run from snapper to the alley today. fairly east in swell and wind. just under 15 knots.

with rain the water was brown as.

anyway the water and runners were really strange and the runs hard to come by.

at about bilinga/ tugun area i was looking ahead at a wild looking stretch of water. white caps all over the place in every direction.
it was really tough to paddle through. the bermuda triangle we joked later

what it was the end of the brown, i suppose rainy water and the start of the sea water. you could have ran a ruler between the two

as we got through that part the runners kicked in,all thou still was pretty bumpy.


can anybody explain what was happening

As Lats said, also you'd find the temperature difference would have been a few degrees as well. Maybe like a little thermal thing going on.

Yes effluent tends to be closer to body temperature.

maybe also add that due to the southern currents you have a cross wind and swell, running into the creeks discharging large amounts of run off creating all sorts of back currents and eddies...

I haven't released any effluent on the Gold Coast in at least 3 years but will endeavour to do so on Tuesday. Do they serve bran muffins for breakfast on Jetstar?
